The invention provides an illumination device () comprising (a) a light emitting diode (LED), (b) a heat sink () and (c) a self-supporting grid (). This grid () is arranged downstream of the LED () and arranged so as to be in contact with the heat sink. The self-supporting grid () comprises a plurality of grid structures () and a plurality of grid openings) between the grid structures (). At least part of the total number of grid openings () encloses luminescent material (), thereby providing luminescent material-filled grid openings (). The invention relates to a color-tunable illumination system () and a luminaire. The color-tunable illumination system comprises a first light source comprising a first set of light emitting diodes (), and a second light source comprising a second set of light emitting diodes (). Both the first and second light source emit light of substantially a first predefined color into a light mixing chamber (). The light mixing chamber further comprises a first luminescent material () converting light of the first predefined color into light of a second predefined color. The first light source is positioned with respect to the first luminescent material for illuminating the first luminescent material with a first flux of light being part of the light emitted by the first light source into the light mixing chamber. The second light source is positioned with respect to the first luminescent material for illuminating the first luminescent material with a second flux of light being part of the light emitted by the second light source into the light mixing chamber. The first flux is different from the second flux. The effect of the measures according to the invention is that a change in the intensity of the light emitted by the first light source relative to the intensity of the light emitted by the second light source results in a change of the color emitted by the color-tunable illumination system.

Color-tunable illumination system

A light-emitting device is provided, comprising at least one light-emitting diode () for emitting light of a first color and a luminescent material () arranged on said at least one light-emitting diode to receive at least part of the light emitted by said light-emitting diode. The light-emitting device further comprises a filter () arranged to receive light emitted by said light-emitting diode () and transmitted through said luminescent material () and to absorb light of said first color. The filter comprises a pigment compound distributed in a matrix of silicon and oxygen atoms, in which matrix at least a portion of said silicon atoms are directly bonded to hydrocarbon groups.

Color-stable phosphor converted LED

The present invention relates to an improved maintenance, low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp having a discharge vessel enclosing a discharge space provided with a filling of mercury and a rare gas in a gastight manner. The discharge vessel is made from a glass of essentially 60-80% by weight SiO and 10-20% by weight Na O. Preferably, the composition of this so-called sodium-rich glass is made of 70-75% by weight SiO , 15-18% by weight Na O and 0.25-2% by weight K O. At least a part of the inner surface of the discharge vessel is provided with a transparent layer having a borate or a phosphate of an alkaline-earth metal and/or of scandium, yttrium or another rare earth metal. Preferably, the alkaline-earth metal is calcium, strontium and/or barium. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the transparent layer is made of yttrium borate and strontium borate. Additionally, the transparent layer preferably has a thickness between 5 and 200 nm and has provided on it a luminescent layer.
