The invention concerns a device for externally cooling a plasma torch. The invention concerns a device for cooling a plasma torch in which the electrode(s) and plasma fluid and cooling circuits are housed in a tubular casing, wherein the cooling device includes an independent sheath surrounding at least one main portion of the tubular casing and formed of two concentric casings, at least one cooling fluid inlet and at least one outlet disposed at the proximal extremity of the sheath, a system of baffles being disposed between the two casings of the sheath so as to constitute between the inlet and outlet a cooling circuit substantially covering the entire surface of the sheath, the inlet and outlet being connected to a suitable cooling fluid source.

A water film cooling modular nozzle for high temperature testing of specimens or similar comprising a rather long divergent in relation to the throat diameter, consisting of a metal section including the convergent, the throat and the beginning of the divergent and one or several divergent sections also metallic, the various sections being end to end assembled, and in that the outer wall of each section is independently cooled with a thin water film, the unit consisting of the sections and the separators being enclosed in a fixed outer shell defining, opposite each section, an independent cooling fluid circulation chamber containing the separator, the arrangement being such that a clearance with respect to the longitudinal axis of said unit in relation with said shell is allowed in order to absorb the thermal expansion of the nozzle.

Water film cooling modular nozzle particularly for high temperature

Inner profile nozzle adapted for high temperature testing of specimens of the 'plane board' type includes an axisymmetric convergent, a throat region, a divergent super-elliptic lying on two rectilinear generating lines taken along two perpendicular planes, including a small axis generating line having a slope of about 1.degree., and a long axis generating line having a slope of about 10.degree.. The throat region is provided with corresponding circular generating lines having downstream ends coupled with the small axis and the long axis generating lines by a curve obtained from an equation whose first and second derivatives are continuous, and whose third derivative is monotonic, so as to eliminate or reduce recompression problems and possible formation of shocks. This nozzle is particularly applicable to the high temperature testing of space vehicle materials.
