According to one aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided a battery charging system. The battery charging system includes battery charging circuitry configured to provide charging current to a battery. The battery charging system further includes feedback circuitry configured to generate a feedback signal indicative of a battery charging condition, wherein the battery charging system is configured to control the battery charging current based on, at least in part, the feedback signal. The battery charging system further includes feed forward circuitry configured to adjust the feedback signal to decrease battery charging current when a decrease in battery current draw exceeds a threshold, and wherein the feed forward circuitry is configured to decrease the battery charging current faster than the feedback circuitry.

Devices and methods provide a duty cycle clamping device for preventing an output voltage of a power converter from decreasing as the duty cycle of a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal driving the power converter increases, the clamping device including duty cycle clamping circuitry configured to determine a critical duty cycle for the PWM signal based on an input voltage, a top voltage of a flying capacitor and a bottom voltage of the flying capacitor, and configured to clamp an actual duty cycle of the PWM signal at the critical duty cycle if a desired duty cycle exceeds the critical duty cycle.

A boost power converter system according to one embodiment includes an input voltage high-side node; an inductor coupled to the input voltage high-side node at a first terminal of the inductor; a power switch coupled to the inductor at a second terminal of the inductor; a drive circuit configured to control the power switch such that the boost power converter system operates in a discontinuous conduction mode when a load current drops below a critical conduction threshold; and a damping switch configured to enable current flow from the power switch at the second terminal of the inductor to the input voltage high-side node, wherein the damping switch is closed when the power switch is open and the damping switch is opened when the power switch is closed.

A charge pumping system capable of a forward operation mode and a reverse operation mode is provided. In forward operation mode the charge pumping system can step-up an input voltage at a ratio of &#xbd;:1 and can step-down the input voltage at a ratio of n:m where n and m are both integer values and n is equal to or greater than m. In reverse operation mode the charge pumping system can step-down the input voltage at a ratio of 1:&#xbd; and 1:1 and can step-up the input voltage at a ratio of p:q where p and q are both integer values and p is less than q.

A charge pumping system capable of a forward operation mode and a reverse operation mode is provided. In forward operation mode the charge pumping system can step-up an input voltage at a ratio of &frac12;:1 and can step-down the input voltage at a ratio of at east one of 1:1, 3:2, 2:1 and 3:1. In reverse operation mode the charge pumping system can step-down the input voltage at a ratio of 1:&frac12;and 1:1 and can step-up the input voltage at a ratio of at least one of 2:3, 1:2 and 1:3.
