A method implemented by a processor of a computing device, comprising: receiving an image from a camera; using a machine vision process to recognize the at least one real-world object in the image; displaying on a screen an augmented reality (AR) scene containing the at least one real-world object and a virtual agent; receiving user input; deriving a simplified user intent from the user input; and in response to the user input, animating the virtual agent within the AR scene, the animating being dependent on the simplified user intent. Deriving a simplified user intent from the user input may include converting the user input into a user phrase, determining at least one semantic element in the user phrase, and converting the at least one semantic element into the simplified user intent.

Communication with augmented reality virtual agents

Methods and systems of establishing a shared augmented reality session between a first computing device and a second computing device are disclosed. The first and second computing devices perform proximity device discovery using a first data communication technology. The first and second computing devices then perform real-time network communication using a second data communication technology. Once the real-time network communication is established, the first and second computing devices perform coordinate space synchronization using the second data communication technology.

Systems and methods for establishing a shared augmented reality session

The disclosure relates to systems, methods and processor-readable storage mediums, having processor-executable instructions stored thereon, for determining the position of a real-world object in an augmented reality application running on a computing device having a camera. The method includes capturing image information using the camera. Detection of real-world objects is then performed using a computer vision model, and filtering of a received point cloud is performed by way of a virtual frustum constructed using the captured image information. Finally, the position of the object is determined using the filtered points.

Systems and methods for augmented reality applications

Methods, systems and processor-readable storage media for rendering a virtual shadow onto a real-world surface in an image are described. Using an augmented reality application running on a computing device having a camera, the method comprises capturing an image of a scene and detecting a real-world surface therein. A transparent occluding virtual plane is rendered onto the real-world surface. A texture associated with a virtual object is then written to a shadow buffer and projected onto the transparent occluding virtual plane.
