The present invention is directed to luminescent solar concentrators, processes for the production of the same and uses thereof. The luminescent solar concentrators comprise a composite substrate including two or more films containing luminescent compounds and wavelength-selective mirrors, which concentrators may be connected to photovoltaic cells.

Luminescent solar concentrator

The invention provides an indicator dye nanoporous photochemical sensor composite glass film, comprising a multiplicity of polyacrylate chains intertwined with a multiplicity of cross-linked networks of silica and doped with an indicator dye, wherein the film is formed with a plurality of nanopores sized in the range between 20 and 200 angstrom for the entry of analytes to be detected thereby.

Photochemical sensors and method for the production thereof

The invention provides a process for preparing a solid state dye laser in a composite glass matrix, without the use of polymerization initiators, comprising preparing a porous silica gel, effecting thermal treatment thereof at a temperature of at least 500.degree. C. to produce a glass with improved mechanical properties, impregnating a solid state laser dye dissolved in methylmethacrylate into the silicon gel glass in a closed container and effecting heat polymerization of the methylmethacrylate at a temperature of at least 60.degree. C., whereby there is formed a glass having pores impregnated with a solid state laser dye and polymethylmethacrylate.

The invention provides a solar concentrator plate doped with a dye selected from the group consisting of GF Orange-Red, Fluorol 555, oxazine-4-perchlorate, LDS 730, LDS 750, BASF 241, BASF 339, and combinations thereof with each other or with GF Clear with 3-phenyl-fluoranthene.

The present invention relates to a collector adapted to concentrate solar energy onto a photoelectric cell comprising in combination at least one glass plate doped with a substance resulting in fluorescence when said plate is irradiated by sunlight, a photoelectric cell being attached to a lateral side of the plate, the other lateral edges of the plate being provided with a reflective coating, said cell having a high efficiency in the range of wavelength of the fluorescent radiation. A plurality of such glass plates can be stacked one upon the other, each doped to absorb at a predetermined region of the spectrum and to fluoresce in a region where a certain photocell is sensitive. A fluorescent dye in a suitable carrier can be applied as a surface layer on such glass plates, and this improves the overall efficiency of the collector.

Collector for solar energy

The invention relates to a method for producing glass, in which an oxide ss is mixed with a reducing agent and a combination of compounds which provide a dopant, donor-acceptor ion pair. This ion pair is selected from the group consisting of trivalent thulium plus trivalent cerium, trivalent bismuth plus trivalent europium, or trivalent bismuth plus trivalent samarium. The resulting mixture is homogenized and heated to about 1100.degree. C. The hot melt is allowed to fall on a ceramic surface and pressed with a second ceramic surface to produce a glass disk. When borax, phosphate, and germanate glasses are used, the glass ingredient is dried overnight at 150.degree. C followed by addition of a quantity of dopant ions, then homogenized, heated, and a disk formed as above. The glass thus produced is capable of emitting monochromatic radiation in predetermined regions of the spectrum wherein the emitted radiation has an unexpectedly high intensity compared with radiation emitted by singly doped glass.
