A receiver front-end for use in a transceiver station of a wireless communication network. The transceiver station is associated with an antenna assembly having a primary and at least a secondary antenna. The receiver front-end is adapted for insertion between the antenna assembly and signal processing sections of the transceiver station. The receiver front-end includes a primary and at least a secondary receiving branch, the primary receiving branch being adapted for coupling to the primary antenna and to the signal processing sections of the transceiver station, the secondary receiving branch being adapted for coupling to the secondary antenna and to the signal processing sections. The primary receiving branch has nonsuperconducting components, including at least a non superconducting filter while the secondary receiving branch has at least a superconducting component.

Highly reliable receiver front-end

A system for diversity processing two signals transmitted and/or received via two diversity antennas includes at least four respective propagation paths coupling the signals to the two diversity antennas. Diversity processing is primarily in the form of decorrelation achieved by means of time variable delay elements that apply time variable delays to the signals propagating over at least two of the propagation paths in the system. The related processing may take place either at RF or IF, or at baseband, whereby the time variable delays are applied by subjecting the baseband signals to multiplication by a complex signal.

A system for diversity processing a signal propagated via two diversity antennas includes: respective propagation paths for propagating two replicas of the signal, these propagation paths being coupled to the two diversity antennas so that the replicas are propagated via different antennas; a time variable delay element for subjecting at least one of the replicas to a time variable delay; and a level adjusting element, such as an asymmetric splitter, to produce a level imbalance between the power levels of the replicas propagated via the two diversity antennas.

In order to reduce the AC losses in a superconducting conductor element subjected to an external magnetic field and through which a current flows, tapes of superconducting material of each layer are wound at such a mutual distance that the gap between the superconducting material of adjacent tapes is not smaller than a predetermined minimum value. These elements are particularly useful in three-phase warm dielectric superconducting cables.
