Disclosed are articles having a thermoplastic photochromic coating. The articles exhibit a Bayer Abrasion ratio of at least 2 and desirable photochromic properties, i.e., the formation of darker activated colors and faster rates of photochromic activation and fade when irradiated with ultraviolet light.

Disclosed herein are visible light curable coating compositions that provide transparent and abrasion-resistant coatings when cured on a substrate. The coating compositions comprise a difunctional acrylate monomer, a multifunctional urethane acrylate, a mercapto modified polyester acrylate, an organic solvent, a sole photoinitiator that is activated in the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum, and optionally, a colloidal silica component. This invention also relates to articles coated with the visible light curable coating compositions of the invention and processes for preparation of such coated polymeric substrates, such as processes for surface restoration of mounted parts, such as surface restoration of automotive headlamps.

Visible light curable coating compositions, articles, and processes of coating articles

Disclosed herein are stable organosiloxane coating compositions comprising a blocked isocyanate silane and at least one polyol that provide abrasion resistant coatings for transparent polymer substrates. The cured coatings also have excellent adhesion to the polymer substrates. In accordance with certain embodiments, the disclosed coating compositions, which when cured on the substrate, provide formable, weatherable, anti-fog, or combinations of formable, weatherable, or anti-fog organosiloxane coatings. Also disclosed herein are articles comprising coatings cured from such coating compositions, and processes for making the coating compositions.

Coating compositions comprising a blocked isocyanate silane

Disclosed herein are aminoplast resin-based coating compositions that provide formable, abrasion-resistant, and weatherable coatings when cured on the substrate. The coating compositions comprise an aminoplast resin; a curing catalyst; a first polyol having an average molecular weight greater than 300; a second polyol having an average molecular weight less than or equal to 300; and at least 5% by weight solids of at least two 2-hydroxyphenol benzotriazole (HPBT)-containing compounds based on the total solids of the coating composition. Also disclosed herein are articles comprising coatings cured from such coating compositions.

Formable aminoplast resin-based coating compositions

Disclosed herein are ultraviolet (UV) curable coating compositions that provide transparent, flexible, and abrasion-resistant coatings when cured on a substrate. The coating compositions comprise an adduct of a multifunctional acrylate monomer component and an amino-organofunctional silane; an organic solvent component; an acid; a colloidal silica component; and a multifunctional urethane acrylate oligomer component. The amino-organofunctional silane is represented by the formula XSi[Q(NHQ)NZH], where X is an alkoxy group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; Qand Qare the same or different divalent hydrocarbon groups; Z is a hydrogen or a monovalent hydrocarbon group; a is an integer from 1 to 3; and b is an integer from 0 to 6. Also disclosed herein are processes for preparing such coating compositions and articles comprising coatings cured from such coating compositions.
