The present invention discloses preadhered, melt-spun, spin-drawn polyester filaments having improved adhesive properties towards rubber and processes for making the same. The process for making these filaments include the following steps:

Preadhered melt spun spin-drawn polyester filaments

In a process for producing melt-spun elastomer threads with a high modulus, a breaking elongation of 80 to 300% and a boiling shrinkage of at least 20%, multifilament elastic threads are obtained by spin-drawing. A molten mass of polyurethane granulate is simultaneously drawn at a drawing factor of at least 1.5 and wound on spools at 600 m/min. or more. The spun-drawn, non-adhesive TPU thread can be processed to form a flat structure, the elasticity of which can be regulated by setting or by tempering in hot water. The thread can also be tempered before being processed in order to acquire the desired elastic properties.

Process of making polyurethane elastomer thread

The method for producing dimensionally stable, low-shrinkage, chemically modified industrial polyester yarns by melt spinning at speeds of 1000 to 4000 m/min. utilizes a copolymer containing at least 85 percent by weight polyethylene terephthalate units and comonomers. During polyester production to lower the thermal shrinkage one or more conformationally fixed linear difunctional comonomers are added to the polymer melt. These difunctional comonomers have the general formula, X'--R--X, where R is an unsaturated linear alkyl group having from three to ten carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl or aromatic group with 6 or more carbon atoms, and X and X' are, independently, OR' or COOR', and R'=H or an alkyl group and, independently, R' is also H or an alkyl group.

Polyester yarn

A friction-textured elastic yarn is prepared by twisting a single-component multifilament melt-spinnable polymer yarn having an initial modulus of 80 to 150 cN/tex and a melting point of at least 200.degree. C. at a speed of at least 200 m/min, the thus twisted yarn is heat-set at 160.degree. to 190.degree. C. to produce a fixated yarn, and the fixated yarn is friction-textured at a pretension of 0.5 to 3.0 cN/tex.
