A tyre-changing machine including a chuck having a self-centring group for blocking a rim of a wheel. The self-centring group includes blocking jaws of the rim arranged angularly equidistanced along a circumference centred on a rotation axis of the chuck, and links and a jack for moving for radially distancing and nearing the blocking jaws with respect to the rotation axis of the chuck to vary a diameter of the circumference on which the blocking jaws are arranged while maintaining an inclination of each blocking jaw constant with respect to the rotation axis of the chuck. Each blocking jaw includes a first portion that is connected to the links, and a second portion that is movably coupled to the first portion such as to be able to change an overall development of the blocking jaw in a radial direction with respect to the rotation axis of the chuck.

A method for balancing motor vehicle wheels, comprising mounting the wheel onto the rotating spindle of a balancing machine, using a probe of known type, selecting balancing planes and diameters, providing the data to the balancing machine, spinning the wheel, calculating the value of imbalance, calculating an entity and angular position for balancing weights to be applied in the balancing planes and diameters previously selected by the operator; during the spinning of the wheel, measuring an acceleration time between two predetermined speeds of the wheel; calculating an imbalance threshold value and applying the balancing weight only if it is above the calculated threshold value.

A method for dismounting self-supporting tires () from the relative rim (), said self-supporting tires comprising an outer cover () that contains a rigid auxiliary ring () provided with two flexible sidewalls (). Said method comprises the operating steps of: lifting a first bead () of the outer cover () away from the rim () in a usual manner, so as to make a first sidewall () of the auxiliary ring () accessible; inserting a dismounting tool () between the elastic edge of said first sidewall () of the auxiliary ring () and the edge of the rim (); moving said dismounting tool (), so as to grip the elastic edge of said first sidewall () and to turn a part thereof towards the outside; pushing said turned part of the first sidewall () outwards, making it slide in contact with the dismounting tool (), until it passes over the edge of the rim (); rotating the auxiliary ring () according to the central axis (A) of the rim (), so that the entire elastic edge of the first sidewall () interacts with the dismounting tool (), and is thus completely lifted away from the rim (); lifting both the second sidewall () of the auxiliary ring () and the second bead () of the outer cover () away from the rim () in the usual manner.

Self-centering unit for tire removal machines, comprising a plate provided with a series of angularly equidistant radial slots, in each of which a clamping jaw is received and slides to grip the edge of a wheel rim, said clamping jaws being linked together in such a manner as to be always equidistant from the axis of said plate, at least one clamping jaw being associated with actuator means causing it to translate in a radial direction by means of a positioner device arranged to vary the working position of said clamping jaws relative to the actuator means, without modifying their travel stroke.

Automatic device for demounting a tire from the relative wheel rim including a demounting tool. The demounting tool can be positioned in a tire bead seeking and gripping position where the axis of the demounting tool is parallel to that of the frame or the demounting tool is rotated a first direction towards the center of the wheel rim. The tool can be positioned for extracting tire bead from the wheel rim in which the axis of the demounting tool is parallel to that of the frame or rotated a direction opposite to the first direction. The device further including a bar, to the end of which the tool is hinged in an intermediate position, and a connecting rod which at one end is hinged to one end of the tool, and at the opposite end is connected to the bar by a lever linkage, the bar being connected to an actuator for advancing it and withdrawing it.

Simplified automatic tire demounting device, and tire removal machines equipped therewith

The tire removal machine comprises an upper member () which rigidly supports the rim of a wheel positioned coaxial to it, and is positioned at the top of a coaxial vertical rotary shaft () projecting upwards from a machine casing (). The device of the invention comprises a support means () for supporting a wheel resting thereon, and transfer means for raising and lowering the support means () to move it from a first position, in which the means () is disposed close to the floor surface in order to receive/unload the wheel, to an upwardly raised position in which the wheel rests on said upper member (), and vice versa.
