A unit () for processing a web () of packaging material, and having at least a first station () for forming a number of through holes () in the web (); a second station () for sealing the holes by applying respective opening devices (); a feed device () for step feeding the web () along a path (P) through the first and second station (); a position sensor () generating a presence signal (S) indicating the passage, past the sensor (), of reference elements (C;) carried by the web () and bearing a predetermined relationship with the holes (); a control device () for controlling the feed device () in response to the presence signal (S); and actuating means () cooperating with the second station () to move the second station in a direction parallel to said path (P), and activated by the control device () to adjust the position of the second station () as a function of the presence signal (S).
