A plurality of independently flow rate-controlled flows of oxidant may be preheated at a heat exchanger (or both oxidant and fuel at separate heat exchangers) by heat exchange with a hot shell-side (heat transfer) fluid. The separate flows of hot oxidant are directed to associated separate burners where they combust with flows of fuel to produce hot combustion gases. The hot combustion gases are used to preheat the hot shell-side fluid at a recuperator or regenerator.

Method and system for heat recovery from products of combustion and charge heating installation including the same

A plurality of independently flow rate-controlled flows of fuel may be preheated at a heat exchanger (or both oxidant and fuel at separate heat exchangers) by heat exchange with a hot shell-side (heat transfer) fluid. The separate flows of hot fuel are directed to associated separate burners where they combust with flows of fuel to produce hot combustion gases. The hot combustion gases are used to preheat the hot shell-side fluid at a recuperator or regenerator.

An ion transport membrane, a heat exchanger, and a recuperator are integrated with a float glass manufacturing process. Only feeds of fuel and air are necessary for producing hot oxygen for a melting furnace and a nitrogen-enriched stream to a float bath. The oxygen and nitrogen are produced on-site without requiring cryogenic distillation.

Ion transport membranes in float glass manufacturing

Ion transport membranes are integrated with a glass melting furnace and a float glass bath. Only feeds of air, steam and hydrocarbon are necessary for producing hot oxygen for the melting furnace and a mixture of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen for the float glass bath.

The invention relates to a fuel combustion method in which one jet of fuel and at least two jets of oxidant are injected. Staged combustion method with optimized injection of primary oxidant

The invention relates to a method for the combustion of a fuel using an oxygenated gas, in which a jet of fuel and at least two jets of oxygen-rich oxygenated gas are injected. Staged combustion method using a low-oxygen gas

The invention concerns a method for melting a composition of raw materials including introducing the composition in an oven to form a layer () at the surface of the molten pool (). An oxycombustion burner () is arranged above the pool and directed towards the composition layer () to produce a melting front (). Parameters of the burner are adjusted to produce a large covering flame () causing an essentially radiation-based thermal transfer. Additionally, a plane containing a longitudinal section of the flame (Z-Z) and a horizontal direction perpendicular to the axis of the oven (X-X) intersects the melting front () at a height (h) included ranging between one third and half of the thickness of the composition (e). Such a method provides for a stable operation of the oven and is particularly adapted to a large-capacity oven.

Method for melting a batch of raw materials by a crown burner

The invention relates to a method for the combustion of a fuel and an oxidant, in which at least one jet of fuel and at least two jets of oxidant are injected. According to the invention, at least one first oxidant is injected at a distance I, at most 20 cm, from the fuel injection point and at least one second oxidant is injected at a distance Ifrom the fuel injection point, Ibeing greater than I. An air separation unit separates air into an oxygen-rich and oxygen-deficient gas. Fuel gas and the oxygen-rich gas are preheated at heat exchangers through which hot flue gas flows. Combustion of the preheated fuel and oxygen-rich gases result in the hot flue gas. The hot flue gas is cooled at the heat exchangers and flows through a waste heat boiler. Water and/or steam flowing through the waste heat boiler absorbs energy from the cooled flue gas thereby producing heated steam. The heated steam flows through a turbine to produce power. The power is transferred to the air separation unit, thus reducing a power requirement of the air separation unit needed to separate the air.

Integrated heat recovery systems and methods for increasing the efficiency of an oxygen-fired furnace

A burner apparatus comprises a conduit adapted to convey preheated oxidant and having outlet and inlet ends, and a conduit adapted to convey preheated fuel and having outlet and inlet ends. The conduit adapted to convey preheated fuel is substantially parallel to the conduit adapted to convey preheated oxidant. The conduit adapted to convey preheated oxidant is positioned substantially vertically above the conduit adapted to convey preheated fuel. The conduit adapted to convey preheated oxidant and the conduit adapted to convey preheated fuel each are positioned within its own respective elongate cavity in a refractory burner block. Each of the conduits are positioned in their respective cavity such that a substantially annular region is present between an outer surface of each conduit and its respective cavity. Each conduit inlet end extends through a respective plenum for receiving an ambient temperature fluid, the plenums adapted to pass the ambient temperature fluid into the respective annular regions.

Preheated fuel and oxidant combustion burner

Methods and apparatus for combusting a fuel with an oxidant are described, the apparatus comprising a ceramic burner block, the burner block having a back face and a front face. The burner block has at least one oxidant cavity in an upper portion of the burner block, and at least one fuel cavity in a lower portion of the burner block, each cavity extending from the back face to the front face. The at least one oxidant cavity has positioned therein a fuel supply conduit, the fuel supply conduit having a fuel supply conduit exit positioned a sufficient distance from the front face to allow combustion of at least a portion of fuel exiting the fuel supply conduit exit with at least some of the oxidant traversing the oxidant cavity, and the least one fuel cavity having connected thereto, near the back face, an oxidant conduit, thereby allowing mixing of a minor portion of the oxidant with the fuel.

Methods and apparatus for combustion in high volatiles environments

A heat exchanger useful for preheating oxidizing gases in a combustion process includes a shell having an inlet and an outlet for the ingress and egress of a first heat exchange fluid, such as a flue gas or preheated air. A first tube manifold couples an inlet end-cap to the first end of the shell. The inlet end-cap has an inlet for receiving a second heat exchange fluid, such as an oxidizing gas. In one embodiment, a second manifold couples an outlet end-cap to the second end of the shell. The second manifold includes an outlet tube therein extending from the second manifold through an outlet opening in the outlet end-cap. A tube bundle is disposed within the shell for transporting the oxidizing gas through the heat exchanger and is coupled to the first and second tube manifolds. The outlet tube collects oxidizing gas flowing through the tube bundle for discharge to a combustion system. The outlet end-cap is pressurized with an inert atmosphere and houses a chemical detector to detect the presence of oxidizing gas within the outlet end-cap.
