Techniques discussed herein can facilitate power management at a User Equipment (UE) via selection of a power management stage based on a current power status. One example aspect is a UE comprising one or more processors configured to: monitor a temperature of the UE via one or more temperature sensors and a power usage of the UE; determine a power status of the UE based at least in part on the temperature of the UE and the power usage of the UE; select, based at least in part on the determined power status, a power management stage of a plurality of power management stages; and implement one or more power management techniques associated with the selected power management stage. A notification can be triggered to alert a user that the processor is implementing the one or more power management techniques prior to implementation.

Power management in wireless modems

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for providing transmission power limit back-off for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) compliance. In one aspect, a method implemented in a wireless communication apparatus is provided. The method includes receiving an indication of at least one operating mode indicative of a proximity and an orientation of at least one transmitting antenna of the wireless communication apparatus. The method further includes selecting from a plurality of transformations associated with the at least one operating mode. The method further includes applying a selected transformation to adjust a relationship between a power transmission level of a first transmitter and a power transmission level of a second transmitter. The method further includes determining a target power transmission level of the first transmitter based on the adjusted relationship and a current power transmission level of the second transmitter.

Systems and methods for dynamic transmission power limit back-off for specific absorption rate compliance

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for providing transmission power limit back-off for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) compliance. In one aspect, a method implemented in a wireless communication apparatus is provided. The method includes receiving an indication of at least one operating mode indicative of a proximity and an orientation of at least one transmitting antenna of the wireless communication apparatus. The method further includes determining a power transmission characteristic based on the determined operating mode and at least one of a radio access technology type, a band-class, a transmission configuration, an uplink channel, a traffic state, and a radio access technology transmission state used by the wireless communication apparatus, or any combination thereof.

A method for measuring non-linear characteristics of a power amplifier is described. A calibration waveform is calculated during a testing procedure period. Amplitude characteristics of the calibration waveform at the output of the power amplifier are measured during the testing procedure period. Phase characteristics of the calibration waveform at the output of the power amplifier are measured during the testing procedure period. Pre-distortion techniques are configured based on the amplitude characteristics and the phase characteristics to be used during a normal operation period of a transmitter.

Systems and methods for measuring non-linear characteristics of a power amplifier

A system and method are disclosed for controlling transmitter output levels in a wireless communications device. The system comprises: a transmitter configured to accept an adjusted transmit bias control value and to supply a transmitter output level in response to the adjusted transmit bias control value; and a gain control circuit configured to supply the adjusted transmit bias control value in response to a transmitter output measurement and to a reference. The gain control circuit comprises a measuring circuit configured to accept the transmitter output level and to supply a transmitter output measurement, a table of initial transmit bias control values cross-referenced to transmitter output levels, the table configured to accept a transmitter output level selection and to supply an initial transmit bias control value in response to the transmitter output level selection, and, a compensator configured to accept the adjusted transmit bias control value and the initial transmit bias control value and to supply a compensated transmit bias control value based on a difference between the adjusted bias control value and the initial transmit bias control value.

System and method for controlling transmitter output levels in a wireless communications device

A system and method are provided for controlling transmitter output levels in a wireless communications device. The method comprises: maintaining a table of initial transmit bias control values cross-referenced to transmitter output levels; selecting transmitter output levels; supplying an initial transmit bias control value from the table corresponding to a selected transmitter output level; generating an initial transmitter output level; measuring the transmitter output level; creating an adjusted transmit bias control value in response to the measured transmitter output level, and to a reference value; using the difference between the initial transmit bias control value and the corresponding adjusted transmit bias control value to create an error value; saving the error value; and adding the error value to a subsequent initial transmit bias control value.
