PKC-Delta-I inhibitor formulations and uses thereof

Provided herein are formulations that can contain an effective amount of a PKC&#x3b4; inhibitor. Also provided herein are methods of inhibiting a PKC&#x3b4; in a subject in need thereof, that can include the step of administering an effective amount of a compound that is capable of inhibiting a PKC&#x3b4;.

PKC-delta-I inhibitor formulations and uses thereof

Modified stilbenoids and formulations thereof are provided. The modified stilbenoids can include one or more amino or amino-alkyl substituents. The formulation can be for the treatment or prevention of obesity and the modified stilbenoid present in an effective amount to alleviate or prevent the onset of one or more symptoms of obesity. Methods of making the modified stilbenoids and formulations thereof are provided. Methods are provided for treating a subject with a modified stilbenoid in an effective amount to alleviate or prevent one or more symptoms associated with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, deep vein thrombosis, osteoarthritis, obstructive sleep apnea, cancer, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The administration of the modified stilbenoids can result in decreased levels of PKC&#x3b4;II, PKC&#x3b4;VIII, substantially unaltered expression of PKC&#x3b4;I; a decreased number of adipocytes; increased weight and/or fat loss; or a combination thereof.

Compositions and methods for adipocyte modulation

A method of detecting brain tumorigenesis in a subject, the method including the steps of (a) obtaining a sample from the brain of the human subject, (b) detecting quantitatively or semi-quantitatively in the sample a level of expression for PKC-iota and (c) comparing the expression level in (b) to a level of expression in a normal control, wherein overexpression of PKC-iota, with respect to the control, indicates the presence of a glioma or meningioma in the subject. The present invention is based upon the discovery that PKC-iota levels are elevated during brain tumorigenesis. Furthermore, the proliferation rate of the tumor correlates with the level of PKC-iota. The invention also provides methods of treating gliomas and meningiomas by administering to the subject a compound that inhibits the expression of PKC-iota. The compound can be a small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecule.
