A method of augmenting sight in an individual. The method comprises obtaining an image of a scene using a camera carried by the individual; transmitting the obtained image to a processor carried by the individual; selecting an image modification to be applied to the image by the processor; operating upon the image to create a modified image using either analog or digital imaging techniques, and displaying the modified image on a display device worn by the individual. The invention also relates to an apparatus augmenting sight in an individual. The apparatus comprises a camera, carried by the individual, for obtaining an image of a scene viewed by the individual; a display carried by the individual; an image modification input device carried by the individual; and a processor, carried by the individual. The processor modifies the image and displays the modified image on the display carried by the individual.

Apparatus and method for augmenting sight

A method and apparatus of displaying a magnified image comprising obtaining an image of a scene using a camera with greater resolution than the display, and capturing the image in the native resolution of the display by either grouping pixels together, or by capturing a smaller region of interest whose pixel resolution matches that of the display. The invention also relates to a method whereby the location of the captured region of interest may be determined by external inputs such as the location of a person's gaze in the displayed unmagnified image, or coordinates from a computer mouse. The invention further relates to a method whereby a modified image can be superimposed on an unmodified image, in order to maintain the peripheral information or context from which the modified region of interest has been captured.

Method and apparatus for a dynamic 'region of interest' in a display system

A method and system for providing multiple ophthalmic and retinal blood measurements is outlined. By extracting multiple digitized wavelength images and quantitative data within a relatively short time period the method allows for compensation of a patient's eye or head movement, generation of ophthalmic clinical records, and determination of data relating to blood measurements, such as oxygen saturation and hemoglobin, in addition to ocular and other disease determinations. The method provides for multiple analysis and measurements within a single sitting of the patient, with a single simple instrument and without adaptations to the instrument during a patient's eye examination. Beneficially the approach allows for low cost, compact, and even portable implementations offering such analysis and determination outside the current ophthalmic centers providing eased access and earlier diagnosis opportunities.

Method and apparatus for correlated ophthalmic measurements

The present invention provides a correlation technique for analysis of changes in bodily fluid and/or tissue in order to identify or monitor appearance, progression or treatment of a disease or condition in a subject. The disclosed method involves measuring spectral properties or changes in bodily fluid and/or tissue of a subject using at least two optical techniques; and correlating the measured properties or changes to a corresponding clinical condition or change in clinical condition, respectively. The measure of spectral changes over time can be used as indicators of changes in the clinical condition, for example, in disease treatment and/or disease regulation. This method is particularly useful for identifying a disease state and for monitoring efficacies of therapies used to treat different diseases or disorders, for example, renal dialysis.

Correlation technique for analysis of clinical condition

Disclosed are an apparatus and method for separately detecting and measuring specularly reflected light and diffusely reflected light following illumination of an eye by light. The apparatus and method of the present invention facilitates substantial separation of the diffusely reflected light from light specularly reflected from the eye after passing through one or more elements of the eye, for example, the cornea, lens, retinal vasculature, the nerve fibre layer and/or the photoreceptors. The collection of these separate streams of independent optical signals to appropriate detection systems provides specificity and accuracy in determination of optical properties of one or more elements of the eye.

Apparatus and method for optical measurements

A method is provided for biosensing using a photonic crystal fiber having a hollow core. The method includes: designating an analyte of interest; determining a wavelength for an excitation light source which generates a Raman spectrum when incident upon the analyte of interest; selecting a photonic crystal fiber that would guide the light when the fiber is non-selectively filled with a solvent hosting the analyte of interest; non-selectively filling a photonic crystal fiber with the solvent hosting the analyte of interest; interrogating the analyte of interest by coupling light from the light source to the photonic crystal fiber; and analyzing the light output from the photonic crystal fiber for Raman fingerprints.
