The present invention relates to polyarylene ether block copolymers according to the general formula A-K&#x2014;X&#x2014;K-A, where &#x2014;X&#x2014; is a polyarylene ether segment with number-average molar mass of at least 5000 g/mol, and A- is a segment of the general structure RNH&#x2014;(R&#x2014;NH&#x2014;CO&#x2014;Ar&#x2014;CO&#x2014;NH)&#x2014;R&#x2014;NH&#x2014;, in which Ris a linear or branched alkylene group having from 2 to 12 carbon atoms and Ar is an arylene group having from 6 to 18 carbon atoms, and Ris selected from aryloyl, alkyloyl, and H, and in which the number average of n is from 1 to 3, and there is a coupling group K of the structure &#x2014;CO&#x2014;Ar&#x2014;CO&#x2014; linking each A to X, in which Aris an aromatic group having from 6 to 18 carbon atoms. The present invention also relates to a process for the production of the polyarylene ether block copolymers of the invention, to polymer compositions comprising the polyarylene ether block copolymers of the invention, and also to the use thereof for the production of moldings, of films, of fibers, or of foams.

Segmented polyarylene ether block copolymers

Disclosed are polyesteramide resin compositions having amide units of formula (I): ##STR1## and the units of the formula (II): ##STR2## wherein the polyesteramide is substantially devoid of units derived from butane diol. The ratio of (I) to (II) in the polyesteramide is preferably less than 1:3. Preferred polyesteramides have at least 80% of units of formula (I) separated by at least one of the units of formula (II).

The invention deals with copolyester amides built up from units derived from terephthalic acid, 1,4-butane-diol and 1,4-butane diamine.

The invention relates to segmented copolyesteramides built up from units derived from one or more flexible segments, 1,4-butanediol, 1,4-butanediamine and terephthalic.

Segmented copolyester amides

The invention relates to a novel grade of copolymides of tetramethyleneadipamide (nylon 4.6) and tetramethyleneterephthalamide (nylon 4.T) containing a mole fraction nylon 4.T of 0.1 to 0.6 and having such a degree of orientation that the melting temperature shows little dependence on the composition of the copolyamide and remains relatively low and which copolyamides have good mechanical properties.

Copolyamide from tetramethylene diamine, adipic acid and terephthalic

A process is disclosed for the preparation of polytetramethylene adipamide by heating in a first reaction zone, the salt of 1,4-diaminobutane and adipic acid, with from 0-25 wt. % of other polymide-forming compounds, at a pressure between 5 and 100 bars to form a prepolymer, then passing the prepolymer containing liquid reaction mixture to a second reaction zone wherein the temperature of the liquid reaction mixture is maintained above its solidification point while the pressure is simultaneously reduced, then subjecting the prepolymer containing liquid reaction mixture to after-condensation in at least one subsequent reaction zone.

Process for the preparation of polytetramethylene adipamide

A process is described for the preparation of high-molecular weight white polyamides, substantially consisting of units of --NH--(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --NH--CO(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --CO--, by the after-condensation of a corresponding low-molecular prepolymer, consisting substantially of a molecular chain of units of --NH--(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --NH--CO(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --CO--, in which process the prepolymer which is employed has been prepared in the presence of an excess of 0.5 to 15 moles-% of 1,4-diaminobutane with respect to the quantity stoichiometrically equivalent to the adipic acid applied. This prepolymer is thereafter subjected to the after-condensation reaction in the solid phase in an atmosphere containing water vapor.

Preparation of high molecular polytetramethylene adipamide

Shaped articles are described molded from a nylon 4,6 polyamide, substantially consisting of [NH--(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --NH--CO(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --CO] units and having a relative viscosity, measured at 20.degree. C., on a solution in 96% sulfuric acid containing 1 g of polyamide in 100 ml of solution, of at least 2.0, and having highly stable high temperature, zinc-ion and chloride ion resistance characteristics.

Highly stable nylon 4,6 objects

A process for the preparation of white nylon 4,6 polyamide of high molecular weight from a tetramethylenediamine adipic acid prepolymer, formed under controlled conditions of temperature and water vapor pressure and wherein the plurality of cyclical end-groups in the prepolymer does not exceed 0.20 mg. equivalent per gram of prepolymer.
