The invention relates to a lighting system comprising a parallel resonant converter comprising an input node for receiving a bus voltage an output node a half bridge comprising a first switch coupled between the input node and a switching node and a second switch coupled between the switching node and a return node. The parallel resonant converter further comprises a controller adapted to provide a first control signal to the first switch and a second control signal to the second switch an inductor coupled between the switching node and the output node. The lighting system further comprises a load comprising a first load part, the first load part comprising a first lighting load a capacitor coupled in parallel with the first lighting load and a second lighting load coupled in anti-parallel with the first lighting load, wherein the load further comprises: a third lighting load and a fourth lighting load, coupled in anti-parallel with the third lighting load, wherein the third lighting load and the fourth lighting load are coupled in series with the first load part.

A lamp driver has a transformer, a primary side circuit and a secondary side circuit. The primary side circuit comprises a half bridge circuit and a sensor circuit for measuring a conduction time or switching frequency of one of the transistors of the half bridge circuit. An estimate is provided of the output voltage from the measured conduction time.

A resonant inverter has a switch network from which a phase signal is provided representing the phase of the switching signal. A resonant tank circuit is coupled to the first switch network output and provides a feedback signal comprising a resonance voltage across a circuit element of the resonant tank circuit. A reference current to be drawn from the input node is set and a reference phase is set based on the reference current. The switching signal for the switch network is controlled based on a phase difference between the resonance voltage and the phase signal, and based on the reference phase. This resonant inverter employs a phase modulation scheme as the control scheme for the switch network of a resonant inverter. This approach is suited for high and very high frequency operation of resonant converters, for example up to tens of MHz.

An inverter circuit receives an AC input signal and uses at least two bidirectional switches between the input terminals and a junction node to perform the electrical inversion function. A resonant circuit is formed by a primary side inductor between the junction node and a second node and a capacitor arrangement between the second node and the input terminals.

Various improvements are provided to resonant DC/DC and AC/DC converter circuit. The improvements are of particular interest for LLC circuits. Some examples relate to self-oscillating circuit and others relate to converter circuits with frequency control, for example for power factor correction, driven by an oscillator.

DC/DC resonant converters and power factor correction using resonant converters, and corresponding control methods

An AC/DC PFC converter comprises an LLC PFC pre-regulator and a DC/DC converter output stage. The output stage has a feedback unit adapted to provide a feedback signal (in addition to the conventional feedback of the bus voltage error) to the control circuit of the PFC pre-regulator for modulating the controlled output voltage of the PFC pre-regulator in dependence on the output power and/or the input current and voltage. In this way, the total harmonic distortion of the input of the converter can be reduced by controlling the gate switching in the PFC pre-regulator.

The synchronous converter further comprises a control circuit () comprising a threshold control circuit () for generating a threshold control signal (iq) for switching off one switch of the first switch (M) and the second switch (M) when a current threshold of a current through this one switch is exceeded, wherein the threshold control circuit has an input for receiving a current signal indicating a current through this one switch and a comparator for comparing the current signal with the current threshold to obtain the threshold control signal and an on-time control circuit () comprising a calculating unit for directly calculating an on-time duration for the other switch of the first switch (M) and the second switch (M), wherein the on-time duration is proportional to an average output current (ILED) and inversely proportional to an output voltage (Vout) and for adjusting a negative peak current (Ineg) to obtain a substantially constant switching frequency of the synchronous converter when the synchronous converter is in normal operating mode.

A half bridge resonant converter comprises a half bridge inverter having a high side switch and a low side switch with an output defined from a node between the high side switch and the low side switch. The output connects to a resonant circuit. There are separate control circuits for generating the gate drive signals for controlling the switching of the high side switch and low side switch, in dependence on an electrical feedback parameter, each with different reference voltage supplies.
