The present invention concerns an implantable access device and a method for preparing the device. According to the invention the device comprises a shape memory base structure with a biological substructure suitable for cell adhesion, cell engraftment and proliferation for use in transferring and transporting fluid mixtures (blood, suspensions, drug formulations, emulsions, cell suspensions) in/into/out of a human or animal body.

Implantable access device and method for preparing thereof

A device for culturing, storing and expanding adherent renal cells. The device permits the adhesion and proliferation of the cells and the surface characteristics of the membrane material used in said device further permit the cellular matrix components (EMC). The invention relates to hydrophilic membranes which are supplemented or treated with a non-ionic surfactant and processes for preparing such membranes. The membranes are particularly suitable for plasma separation or for haemodialysis and haemodiafiltration, but can also advantageously be used in other applications. Accordingly, the invention is further directed to the use of such membranes for plasma separation, plasma filtration, micro filtration, plasma therapy, haemodialysis and haemodiafiltration or cell filtration applications, respectively. The present invention includes a co-polymer film which can be applied over a surface of an article to form a continuous surface that is more biocompatible and has a smoother surface morphology than an untreated article. In general the co-polymer film of the invention can be formed by providing a hydrophobic polymer block, such as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with functional &#x2014;OH end groups and reacting the &#x2014;OH ends with a conventional monomer or prepolymer of a film-forming polymer capable of reacting with &#x2014;OH groups. Such reactions are exemplified, using as reactive PDMS a triblock copolymer of the polylactone-polysiloxane-polylactone (PL-PDMS-PL) type, or silicone polyesters. The &#x2014;OH groups of the polylactone blocks can react with any of a variety of isocyanates in a suitable solvent to form a polymer having PDMS incorporated with its structure. The film can be applied to the surface of an article by any convenient means of coating the article with the reaction mixture in solvent, and allowing the solvent to evaporate.

The present invention includes a co-polymer film which can be applied over a surface of an article to form a continuous surface that is more biocompatible and has a smoother surface morphology than an untreated article. Use of a solution comprising glucose for peritoneal dialysis, in which the glucose portion is sterilised separately from the remaining components at a high glucose concentration above about 20% and mixed after sterilisation, substantially according to WO 93/09820. Membranes composed of sulphonated polyaryl ether sulphones are disclosed in which the repetitive polymer units have the formula ##STR1## in which the aryl radicals are substituted by SO.sub.3 X where X is hydrogen or an alkali metal and the polymer includes from about 0.3 to 0.6 SO.sub.3 X radicals per unit. Processes for producing these membranes are also disclosed.
