A sleeve that has the shape seen in the longitudinal direction that deviates in cross section and/or has an outside diameter that changes from a shape with a rotational symmetry to a shape with a non-rotational symmetry and has a ridge extending at least a portion of the length of the sleeve to form ledges between the ridge and adjacent curved surfaces. A method for manufacturing the sleeve includes inserting a workpiece in a die having the desired contour for the outer surface of the sleeve, heating the material and subjecting the material to internal pressure to deform the workpiece into the contour of the die to form the sleeve.

A dental handpiece is provided with a gripping sleeve, which receives a base member arrangement composed of either a single piece or multi-pieces. The base member having bearing arrangements for supporting a drive shaft section, which is engageable with the drive shaft of a motor and has an arrangement for guiding various agent lines, such as water, air or light or electrical power on the outer surface of the base member within the interior of the sleeve. The outer sleeve is free of holding and guide elements for the agent lines and the gripping sleeve can be firmly clamped onto the base member or can be clamped to the base member with interposed elastic vibration-dampening elements.

Dental handpiece

A dental handpiece arrangement which has a drive transmission for transmitting the rotation from a motor to a socket receiving the tool in the head of the handpiece comprising a first drive shaft having a pair of coaxially arranged drive gears of different numbers of teeth, a second drive shaft having a gear engaging one of the pair of coaxial drive gears characterized by the second drive shaft being composed of a first drive shaft portion and a second drive portion which are interconnected by meshing gears providing a change in the gear ratio. Preferably, the two drive shaft portions of the second drive shaft are mounted in a housing with a gear at each end and the housing is adapted for being supported in the handpiece arrangement in two different positions so that in a first position, a gear at one end is engaging one of the pair of coaxial gears of the first drive shaft and in the second position the gear at the opposite end is engaging the other of the pair. Thus, by changing the position of the housing, a continuous stepping-up of the gear ratio can be obtained or by reversing the position of the housing a continuous stepping-down of the gear ratio can be obtained.

Dental handpiece arrangement

A dental handpiece with at least two drive shaft sections for transmitting the rotary motion from a drive motor to an acceptance socket which is rotatably mounted in a head part of the handpiece, each of the drive shaft sections being arranged with their axes at an angle to one another and one of the two drive shaft sections having two coaxial gears which have different numbers of teeth and the other drive shaft section having at least one gear characterized by one of the two sections being mounted for axial displacement between two positions with one of the positions having one of the two gears in engagement with a gear and the other position having the other of the two gears in engagement with a gear. The gears on the drive shaft sections can be selected so that in one of the positions a direct drive can be obtained and in the other position either a step-up or step-down ratio can be obtained. In one embodiment, a single gear of the one section coacts with the two gears of the other section. In another embodiment, each of the drive shafts have two gears with the axial displacement between the two gears such that one pair of gears is in engagement when the displaceable shaft is in one position and a second pair of gears is in engagement when the section is in the second position.

A dental handpiece, which has a drive motor part connected to a housing and a head part with a socket for supporting a tool for rotation being releasably secured on the housing, characterized by the handpiece being convertible between an angled handpiece and a straight handpiece. This is accomplished by the housing being composed of a first housing member, a second housing member, a device for interconnecting the first and second housing members for swivel movement between a first position with their drive shaft sections extending at an angle to each other and a second position with the drive shaft sections being in axial alignment, and a device for holding the housing members in a selected one of the first and second positions. The head part has a sleeve of a configuration to telescopically cover the second housing member and the majority of first housing member while the members are held in one of the first and second positions so that by changing the head part to provide another head part having a sleeve with a different configuration, the handpiece is converted between an angled handpiece and a straight handpiece.

In a dental handpiece having a drive motor, a grip section coupled to the drive motor and terminating in a head part having a socket for supporting a tool for rotation, the grip section having a drive train for transmitting rotation motion of the drive motor to the socket with the drive train including at least two drive shaft sections interconnected by meshing gears and the grip section having an angle portion so that one drive shaft section adjacent the socket extends at an angle of inclination to the other drive shaft section on the axis of the drive motor characterized by an improvement of the angle of inclination being formed in at least two stages with an additional drive shaft section interposed between the one drive shaft section adjacent the socket and other drive shaft section on the axis of the drive motor. The additional drive shaft section will form an individual angle with each of the two drive shaft sections with each individual angle being less than the angle of inclination but at least one-fourth of the angle of inclination and preferably being approximately half of the angle of inclination.

A dental handpiece provided with a handle having one end connected to a supply hose with several supply lines for liquid or gaseous media. A head section with a dental tool is connected to another end of the handle, and the handle is provided with hollow conductors for carrying the media from the supply lines to the head section. The handle may be rotated about the longitudinal axis of the handle, and relative to the supply hose. The means for rotating the handle is located inside the handle, and the latter is further divided into two portions which are turnable with respect to each other. One of the portions is adjacent to the supply hose, and is non-rotatable with respect to the supply hose. The other portion is connected to the head section and has a length which is at least one-third and at most two-thirds of the overall length of the handle. The part of the handle which is connected to the head section, is in the form of a sleeve-shaped end element which is inserted into a suitably formed mating piece in the other handle portion. The sleeve-shaped element is supported by bearing elements against the respective handle portion.

A foot control installation, which is particularly adapted for use in a dental apparatus, in which an actuating member, operatively connected to a control and/or switching element, is supported in a housing of the dental apparatus, and is adapted to have movement imparted thereto, with one end of the actuating element projecting from the housing and having a foot contact. The foot control installation includes a foot-actuated pressure plate and downwardly depressable foot contact for actuating switches whereby, in addition to the control of the speed, other switching sequences are concurrently provided, for example, the predetermination of the rotational direction of the motor, the in-and-out switching of the motor, as well as the switching of a valve used for the supply of pressurized air or water to the handpiece of the drilling apparatus.

Operated switch controller for dental engine and associated apparatus

A foot control installation, which is particularly applicable to dental apparatus, which includes a housing having a projecting actuating member with a foot contact which is horizontally displaceable from an initial position into an operative position in opposition to return biasing means so as to actuate a control and/or switching element. The actuating member is supported by two supports located within the housing and forming a pivot arm and cooperative support elements so as to impart a predetermined path to the actuating member facilitating contact between the operator's foot and the foot contact.

Foot controller switch assembly for dental appliances

A foot control installation for drives, particularly for dental drill drives or motors, including a housing and an actuating member projecting therefrom with a foot contact, with the actuating member adapted to be displaced from an initial into an operative position for actuation of a control element for the drive. The installation includes at least two switches selectively actuated through a selector switch so as to provide for different modes of operation through either a first actuating member or another actuating element.
