Relatively short sections of photographic roll films (such sections can consist of a single film frame or of two or another small number of film frames) are provided with elongated strip-shaped extensions for convenient transport through a copying machine. Extensions are severed from the leader of a roll of convoluted flexible material having a width matching the desired length of an extension, and one end of a freshly severed extension is caused to overlap one end of a film section so that the extent of overlap is not more than the width of a frame line between two neighboring frames of a roll film. One side of each extension is fully coated with a layer of hotmelt, and the extension is sealed to the respective film section by a narrow elongated heating element which is moved against the overlapping ends of the film section and the properly oriented extension. The roll can be subdivided into wider or narrower extensions, depending upon the width of film sections which are to be connected with extensions.

Apparatus for advancing roll films in a copying machine on a table which is located above the floor at a level less than the length of a film. The apparatus has a film channel and advancing rolls which can engage one end portion of a film to advance the film past a monitoring device preparatory to copying and/or past a copier subsequent to monitoring. The other end portion of the film is frictionally or clampingly held in a recess or on a supporting surface adjacent the inlet of the film channel so that the median portion of the film forms a loop which does not reach the floor beneath the table. A wiping device with two brushes can be installed adjacent the recess to wipe both sides of the film while the film advances into the channel so that the size of its looped portion is reduced.

Apparatus for manipulating roll films in copying machines

A photographic copying machine has a copying unit which must receive a web of unexposed photosensitive web material well above the floor level. The web material is confined in cassettes which must be lifted before they reach a level in which the web material which is confined therein can be drawn into the copying unit. In order to facilitate manual manipulation of a relatively heavy and bulky cassette, the latter is provided with handless and with one part of a separable coupling which constitutes a hinge and enables the person in charge to pivot the cassette to an upright position subsequent to manual lifting approximately to the chest level. If necessary, the pivoted cassette is thereupon pushed into a chamber of the copying unit. A cassette for reception and storage of freshly exposed photosensitive web material can be manipulated in the same way.

Photographic copying machine for use with mobile cassettes

A receptacle for packaging an order of photographs and negatives includes a base panel and a cover panel which define two pockets each of which has an openable and closable side. The base panel has a flap which extends beyond the openable and closable sides while the cover panel terminates at, and has an auxiliary tab adjacent to, the openable and closable sides. The flap is provided with a restraining tab which normally overlaps the auxiliary tab. The pockets have an open position in which the restraining tab is located between the auxiliary tab and the base panel, and a closed position in which the auxiliary tab is located between the restraining tab and the base panel. A device for closing the receptacle includes a slot designed to receive the region of the junction between the flap and the restraining tab, and a surface arranged to be contacted by the pockets. The slot and the surface have a relative orientation such that the flap is bent when the junction is received in the slot and the pockets contact the surface.

A film winding spool for a photographic camera has an inner cylindrical member driven in rotation and provided with engaging formations for engaging an initial portion of the film, and an outer cylindrical member surrounding the inner member so as to form a space therebetween and having a slot for introducing the initial portion of a film into this space and an outer surface for winding successive coils of the film, wherein the outer member has at least one opening arranged so that a piece of the film separated from a remaining part of the film can be withdrawn from the space between the inner and outer members through the opening.

A digital circuit is described for controlling functions of a camera wherein the circuit is powered by a potential source which is connected to the circuit through a relay actuated switch. The circuit employs a plurality of D-flip flops to regulate functions such as film transport and opening and closing of the camera shutter as a function of the light intensity of the scene being photographed. A reset signal generator is used to provide stable and reliable control over the starting condition of the flip flops and render the circuit insensitive to voltage transients as may occur from contact bounce effects at the relay actuated switch. The reset signal generator employs an inverter delay chain to provide like reset pulses when such contact bounce occurs. Various control features are described.

Switching circuit for regulation of camera functions

A photographic camera has a housing, a viewfinder, an objective displaceable between extended and retracted positions relative to the housing, a device for displacing the objective between the extended and retracted positions, a film transporting device, a film take-up spool, an electric motor rotatable in two opposite directions and arranged so that when the electric motor rotates in one of the directions it is coupled with the objective displacing device, and when the motor rotates in the other of the directions it is coupled with the film transporting device and the film take-up spool, a switching element for reversing the electric motor, and a locking device for the film take-up spool, coupled with the switching element so that when the electric motor is switched for rotation in the one direction for displacing the objective and is coupled with the objective displacing device the film take-up spool is locked against rotation, and when the electric motor is reversed and uncoupled the film take-up spool is released.

A photographic camera has a housing the front wall of which is provided with a view finder having an inlet window and with a lens. A manually slidable first cover is movable to and from a position in which it covers the inlet window, and the second cover is movable to and from a new position in which it covers the lens. An arrangement is provided which links the covers for joint movement so that when the view finder cover moves to a position in which it uncovers the view finder the lens cover automatically also moves to a position to which it uncovers the lens, and vice versa.

Photographic camera

A motorized film-transporting mechanism for roll film cameras has a motor-circuit switch arranged in the path of movement of a film sensor so as to be closed when a film is present in the camera. A film counter is biased to zero position when the camera back is opened. When a film is present in the camera and the back is closed, the motor is automatically energized to advance the film by a length corresponding to two film frames so as to move this usually spoiled (light-blackened) film length out of the way. The motor is then automatically de-energized and all components are in readiness for subsequent picture-taking and incremental film advance by one film frame each. When all exposures have been made the film is rewound by the motor which shuts down when rewinding is completed.

Motorized film-transporting mechanism

A camera has an objective which can be moved from an extended, operative position to an inoperative position retracted into the camera housing for dimensional compactness. The objective is driven by a motor from one to the other of those two positions and moved by hand back in the other direction, or is motor driven in both directions. The motor employed is the film transport motor anyway present. The objective is coupled to and decoupled from the drive motor in dependence upon the setting of a manual selector, so that the objective not be driven at improper times, and is preferably coupled and decoupled in automatic response to the setting of a manual selector used to implement other camera functions, so that extension and/or retraction of the camera objective occur automatically as a logical incident to the other camera functions selected by the user.

Still camera with an objective which can be retracted into the camera

A photographic camera has a housing provided with a film loading chamber, a film storage chamber and a film window. An arrangement is provided for transporting unexposed film from the loading chamber to the storage chamber and for subsequently transporting it intermittently past the film window for exposure and back into the loading chamber. This arrangement includes a direction-reversible film transporting motor, an operating member which causes the motor to rotate in one direction in which film is transported from the loading chamber into the storage chamber, and a camera actuating member which causes the motor to rotate in an opposite direction in which the film is intermittently transported from the storage chamber past the film window into the loading chamber.

A photographic apparatus, particularly a still camera, wherein two lenses having different focal lengths are pivotable about the axes of two shafts which are located diametrically opposite each other with respect to the axis of a third shaft which supports a two-armed lever. The mounts of the lenses are coupled to the adjacent arms of the lever by pin-and-slot connections, and the lever is pivotable by a reciprocable knob to move one of the lenses into register with the light-admitting aperture when the knob is moved in one direction and to move the other lens into register with the aperture when the knob is moved in the opposite direction. The lenses are installed in the camera body at the opposite sides of the aperture, and the body has stops which arrest the respective lenses in operative positions. The lever has cams which cooperate with a leaf spring to yieldably hold either of the two lenses in register with the aperture. The shafts for the lenses and the respective lenses are adjustable axially in parallelism with the optical axes of such lenses.
