The valve, in particular glue valve, consists of a valve housing () and of a plug unit () fitted thereto. The two parts are assembled separately, with connecting clips () being connected to the plug unit () and, when the plug unit () is fitted onto the valve housing (), being connected to the latter, namely to the coil core (), via clamping members.

The invention relates to a valve particularly for transferring small portions of glue onto folding tabs of (cigarette) packs. A closing element () of the valve is actuated by different elements, that is to say, is moved between the open and closed positions, on the one hand by two permanent magnets () arranged a short distance from each other and having aligned poles such that the closing element is permanently kept in the closed position by the permanent magnets (). On the other hand, an actuating element, which is configured as an electromagnet (), acts to move the closing element () into the open position in a controlled way by overcoming the closing forces. The closing element () is designed in a particular way, that is to say, with channels extending along the outside in the longitudinal direction for the medium or the glue.

Valve, particularly glue valve

A glue valve with electromagnetic actuation of a valve tappet () having a valve housing (), which has a lateral aperture which is open in the upward direction, that is to say a side opening (). A coil core () and a transversely directed carrying crosspiece (), on which a plug () can be fitted, form a unit, that is to say a coil unit (), which can be introduced into the valve housing () in one operation, via the side opening () which is open in the upward direction.

For the production and filling of (sheet-material) bags () with one tobacco portion () each, a plurality of bags () are preferably made available in the region of a filling station (). The latter is located in the vicinity of a pressing station (), which is supplied with the tobacco portions (). In the region of the pressing station () or in a pressing chamber (), each tobacco portion () is compressed in the vertical direction on a horizontal rest, namely on a platform (), and in addition preferably compressed by a pressing crosspiece () in the horizontal direction. The tobacco portion () thus formed is introduced into the bag ().

Method of, and apparatus for, producing bag packs

In order to treat cut tobacco so as to loosen and homogenize the same, a tobacco stream () passes through a plurality of processing stations (), in the region of which the tobacco is loosened, during transportation, with the aid of different processing arrangements. The tobacco stream or main stream here is divided up into a plurality of smaller sub-streams during treatment.

A distributor or hopper is part of a cigarette production machine and serves for dressing the tobacco in the provision of a continuous tobacco strand. An integral part of a distributor is a metering system which prepares the tobacco for the production of the tobacco strand. To separate out undesirable constituents, such as foreign bodies, stalks or ribs, from the tobacco, at least one sifter () is provided. The latter precedes the metering system of the distributor in the working direction, in particular is arranged outside the distributor, so that sifted tobacco is introduced into the distributor.

Device for processing tobacco during the production of cigarettes

The distributor of a cigarette rod making machine employs a zig-zag sifter which receives a mixture of tobacco ribs and shreds from a reservoir by way of a duct or an elevator conveyor. The shreds leave the uppermost stage of the sifter and are conveyed, by a Coanda separator, into an upright gathering duct which discharges shreds for delivery onto the concave surface(s) of one or more guides serving to direct one or more streams of shreds against the underside(s) of one or more foraminous belt conveyors which advance the stream(s) past one or more trimming devices serving to remove the surplus and to thus convert each stream into a rod-like filler which is ready to be draped into a web of cigarette paper. The removed surplus is returned into the reservoir or directly into the zig-zag sifter.

Apparatus for building tobacco rods in cigarette making machines

A shower of tobacco particles is fed into the upper end of a downwardly sloping and downwardly tapering funnel-shaped part of a conveyor wherein the particles gather into a flow of interlaced particles. Successive increments of the flow are acted upon by one or more jets of air issuing from at least one nozzle which loosens successive foremost increments of the flow prior to admission into a tobacco filler rod forming unit in a cigarette rod making machine.

Method of and apparatus for homogenizing streams of particulate fibrous material

The carding at the periphery of a driven wheel in the distributor of a cigarette rod making machine receives tobacco particles from the lower portion of a substantially upright duct the upper portion of which can receive tobacco particles from a magazine by way of an elevator conveyor. At least the lower portion of the duct is vibrated (e.g., at an amplitude of approximately 6 mm and at a frequency of 15-25 Hertz) in directions at right angles to the horizontal rotational axis of the wheel to thus enhance the homogeneousness of the carpet of particles being transported by the carding beyond the discharge end of the lower portion of the duct.

The density of a wrapped rod-like filler of tobacco or filter material for tobacco smoke is ascertained by causing successive increments of the filler to traverse beams of X-rays which, after having penetrated through small portions of the filler, impinge upon detectors forming a linear array and serving to generate (first) signals denoting the intensities of the respective beams. Such intensities are affected by the densities of the respective portions of the filler. The first signals are processed in a circuit together with one or more additional signals denoting the intensity or intensities of one or more beams which bypass the filler, and with one or more further signals furnished by one or more detectors which are shielded from the source of X-rays. The thus obtained (second) signal denotes the densities of successive increments of the filler and is used to correct the density of the filler, if and when necessary. The processing of first, additional and further signals in the circuit can involve a summing with or without preceding logarithmizing, or multiplying of the first signals and logarithmizing the thus obtained product.

The density of successive increments of two neighboring rod-like flows of tobacco particles in a cigarette rod making machine is determined by an apparatus which employs a source serving to emit a divergent beam of X-rays across the paths for the two flows so that the radiation which has penetrated through and issues from the two flows is indicative of the density of the respective flows. Such intensity is ascertained by discrete X-ray detectors which transmit corresponding signals to an evaluating circuit. The latter compares such signals with a reference signal denoting the intensity of a portion of radiation which has bypassed the flows, and the evaluating circuit can further compensate for the difference, if any, between the distances of the two paths from the radiation source.

Apparatus for measuring the density of accumulations of fibrous material

The reliability of mechanical testing of the hardness of cigarettes with one or more pivotable weights is enhanced by modifying the results of such testing on the basis of signals which are obtained by optically scanning the diameters of successive cigarettes prior to mechanically induced deformation. Optical scanning is carried out by triangulation with a fixedly mounted measuring head. The signals which are obtained with mechanical testing can be further influenced by taking into consideration the moisture content and/or the temperature of tobacco in tested cigarettes.
