In a method, at a draw frame for fibre slivers, of adjusting the nip line spacing of a drawing mechanism, which has at least two drawing mechanism roller combinations, of which at least one is so mounted that it can be adjusted, each drawing mechanism roller combination consists of at least one driven lower roller and at least one upper roller (press roller) lying, in operation, on top of the lower roller and so mounted that it can be lifted off. In order to allow optimisation of specific drawing mechanism settings using the same fibre material, with fibre slivers inserted, a) the upper rollers are unloaded or lifted off, b) the mountings of at least one lower roller are unlocked, c) the mountings are adjusted to the desired nip line spacing using a displacement device, d) the mountings are subsequently re-locked.

A method of processing and depositing sliver includes the following steps: drafting the running sliver in a drawing frame; forwarding the sliver by the drawing frame to a coiler head having a sliver outlet; depositing the sliver by the coiler head into a coiler can located underneath the coiler head; replacing a coiler can filled with sliver with an empty coiler can; and rupturing the sliver during the replacing step. Thereupon the filled can is moved away from under the coiler head when the location of reduced thickness in the running sliver is situated in a zone of the sliver outlet of the coiler head.

A sliver coiler apparatus includes a machine frame; a stationary coiler plate supported in the machine frame; a coiler head rotatably supported in the coiler plate; a platform situated underneath the coiler plate; a coiler can positioned on the platform and having a vertically displaceable can bottom; and a control assembly for controlling a rate of downward movement of the can bottom. The control assembly includes an electronic control device; a mechanism for lowering the can bottom; and a pressure sensor responding to forces exerted by the sliver as the sliver filling operation proceeds. The drive of the lowering mechanism and the pressure sensor are connected to the electronic control device which controls the rate with which the mechanism moves the can bottom downwardly as a function of the signals generated by the pressure sensor.

A drawing frame includes an inlet measuring organ sensing a property of a plurality of slivers as they are simultaneously introduced into the drawing frame and emitting a measuring signal representing a magnitude of the property; a regulating drawing unit including a plurality of drawing rolls defining a drawing region along which the slivers are drafted as they run through the drawing frame, a drive for rotating the drawing rolls and a control arrangement for regulating the drive as a function of the measuring signal for varying the draft of the slivers in the drawing region such that mass fluctuations in the slivers are equalized. The control arrangement changes the measuring signal into an actual control signal as a function of operational conditions to compensate for influences derived from the operational conditions and affecting measuring results. The control signal is applied to the drive.
