With a continuous casting mold, the mold side walls each are formed by a supporting wall and an internal plate fastened thereto and getting into contact with the metal melt. On the side of the internal plate facing the supporting wall parallely arranged coolant channels are provided, which are designed as slits open towards the supporting wall and whose width is smaller and whose depth is larger, than the width of the ribs located between the slits. In order to render the cooling performance particularly effective, the width of the cooling ribs is smaller than, or equal to, 13 mm and the flow speed of the coolant is adjusted such that the heat transmission coefficient alpha between the internal plate and the coolant is between 20 and 70 kW/m.sup.2 K, preferably between 25 and 50 KW/m.sup.2 K, such that the heat flow density for the internal plate is larger than the heat flow density for a smooth internal plate having no ribs.

Continuous casting mold arrangement

Additional intermediate narrow side walls are provided between narrow side walls at an apparatus for continuous casting of metals for casting as desired of metal bars with slab boom cross-section or of at least two metal bars of smaller cross-section, where a plate mold is employed, which is provided with a water tank supporting the narrow side walls and the wide side walls. In order to use best the cross-sectional area available for the forming of a slab bloom and in order to maintain acceptable and favorable viewing conditions immediately below the mold, the copper plates of the wide side walls between the end side narrow side walls are in each case subdivided by at least one recess in the longitudinal direction of the advancing metal bar in order to be able to cast at least two bars concurrently. The additional intermediate narrow side walls are inserted opposite to the narrow side walls into the recesses and the intermediate narrow side walls are in each case supported at the support constructions of the copper plates of the wide side walls disposed in the recesses.

Apparatus for continuous casting of bars of different sizes

There is disclosed a continuous casting machine for selectively casting a strand having slab cross section or at least two strands having smaller cross sections. It includes a plate mold surrounded by a support frame supporting the end walls and side walls, and further intermediate end walls provided between the end walls for casting at least two strands. In order to provide end walls that are insertable into the mold and positively connectable thereto with parts that project into the mold used for slab cross sectional formats being avoided, a hollow body carrying copper plates of the intermediate end walls is inserted between the copper plates of the side walls. A coolant flows through the hollow body, which is supported with its upper end on the side walls by supporting elements overlapping the side walls, and with its lower end is fixed by coolant supply and discharge piping. The coolant supply and discharge piping project from the support frame as far as into the hollow body, and extend transversely to the side walls and below the same. Each pipe is displaceable from the operating position projecting into the hollow body into a resting position releasing the hollow body. In a method of starting a continuous casting plant the intermediate end walls are removed from the mold prior to the onset of casting. A starter bar serving for strands having slab cross sections and including at least two starter bar heads is threaded through the mold from above into a strand guide arranged below the mold. Thereupon the intermediate end walls are inserted into the mold and fixed thereto.

Continuous casting plant

A lifting platform is hinged via oscillating cranks forming a four rod linkage mechanism to a spacially fixed support frame at a continuous casting apparatus with a mold having a curved metal bar axis and disposed at the oscillating lifting platform and the lifting platform forms the connecting rod of this four rod linkage mechanism. In order to avoid the generation of cracks in the metal bar at the transition from the oscillating guide track for the metal bar to the spacially fixed guiding of the bar and in order to be able to adapt the oscillating cranks to close quarters, the longitudinal axes of the oscillating cranks intersect at a point while the mold is in middle position, which point is disposed on a straight line connecting the center of curvature of the guide track of the metal bar to the lower end of the oscillating support surface supporting the metal bar. The oscillating cranks are of differing lengths.

Apparatus and method for continuous casting

A plate mould of a continuous casting plant includes a carrying frame mounted on a reciprocating mould lifting table, and walls supported on the carrying frame and delimiting the mould cavity. At least one of the side walls is displaceable transversely to the mould axis by an adjustment drive to change the format of the strand cross section. In order to reduce the expenditures in terms of machinery and investments for a continuous casting plant, the adjustment drive is arranged on a stationary supporting structure neighboring the lifting table, or on the lifting table, and is in connection with the adjustable side wall via a coupling.

Plate mould of a continuous casting plant

During the continuous casting process, metal melt flows from a reservoir covered with a slag layer into a tundish covered with a slag layer, and from there into a mould. In order to prevent a damage to the strand or the continuous casting plant on account of the slag entry into the mould and the jeopardization of the operating personnel, the height of the metal-melt-bath level on the one hand and the height of the slag-bath level on the other hand are continuously determined. From the relation of these values the slag amount present in the tundish is determined.

Arrangement for preventing slag from penetrating into a continuous

A strand guide arrangement to be used in a continuous casting plant has a frame displaceable by an adjustment drive, on which frame supporting elements are mounted which are adjustable to one side face of the strand. The frame is detachably fastened to a displacement ruler and is removable vertically upwardly after release of the fastening and retraction of the displacement ruler. The frame is connectable with the displacement ruler by a projection mounted on the frame or on the displacement ruler and insertable into a corresponding recess in the displacement ruler or in the frame, respectively.

Strand guiding means for guiding a strand in a continuous casting plant

A continuous casting mould suitable for adjustment to various strand cross sectional formats, has at least one transversely divided side wall whose parts are displaceable and fixable relative to the opposite side wall by adjustment drives and are articulately connected with one another, the axis(es) of the connecting member(s) extending in the horizontal direction over the width of the side wall; a method of changing the cross sectional format of a strand.

Continuous casting mould suitable for adjustment to various cross

In a lifting-table-guide arrangement having two oppositely arranged vertical guide elements provided on each of two opposing sides of a mould lifting-table of a continuous casting plant, one of the two oppositely arranged vertical guide elements provided on each of two opposing sides is supported by two rollers mounted one above the other in a lifting-table-guide stand and the other one of the two oppositely arranged vertical guide elements provided on each of two opposing sides is supported by a single counter bearing. The counter bearing is designed as a bearing for a rocker having two rollers arranged at a distance from each other, which rollers support the other one of the two oppositely arranged vertical guide elements.

Lifting-table-guide arrangement

An arrangement for adjusting and securing a bottomless mould to a mould lifting table in a continuous casting plant for strands with supporting and guiding paths arranged to follow the mould to support the strand at opposite sides thereof, has centering apparatus on the mould lifting table and on the mould. Part of the centering apparatus is vertically displaceable relative to the supporting and guiding paths. The mould is arranged with lateral play relative to the mould lifting table and bracing devices are provided for fixing the mould on the mould lifting table.

Arrangement for adjusting and securing a bottomless mould

A continuous casting plant has a frame-shaped lifting table, a mould insertable in the lifting table, and a strand guide device following the mould and including strand guide parts. The strand guide part following the mould is surrounded by a carrying frame, and this strand guide part and the carrying frame are installable in and removable from the continuous casting plant together. The carrying frame is arranged with play in the lifting table and is vertically movable therethrough together with the pertaining strand guide part. On the mould and on the carrying frame, supporting faces opposing each other with play are provided and can engage each other when the carrying frame is lifted.
