An intake manifolding for an internal combustion engine in which the swirl of at least one intake charge flowing into a combustion chamber through at least one intake port opening is variable, the intake port opening being controlled by an intake valve and at least one intake valve comprising at least two intake flow paths formed by intake passages that are completely independent of one another, said flow paths rejoining in the region of the valve chamber, at least one of the intake passages being configured as a primary passage and at least one intake passage as a secondary passage, the flow through the secondary passage being variable by means of a control facility and the secondary passage being configured as a neutral or tangential passage, the primary passage being configured as a tangential passage defining a flow stalling edge at the intersection between a first entrance cross-section and the intake port opening.

The invention relates to a variable swirl generating intake manifold with at least one longitudinally oriented partition wall that forms at least one swirl generating first manifold section and one swirl stopping second manifold section, said manifold sections only meeting again in the valve area, at least the second manifold section being, for the purpose of increasing the swirl, at least partially closable in the entrance area by means of a control flap that is pivotal about an axis, said axis being substantially arranged in the plane of the partition wall, said control flap having two arms and said two manifold sections being at least partially closable in a first rotational end position and open in a second rotational end position. To permit in the simplest possible way to both vary the swirl and throttle the intake charge there is provided that, for providing an increase in swirl, the control flap may be deviated from the second rotational end position toward a third end position by closing at least partially the second manifold section.

The invention relates to an intake manifold arrangement for an internal combustion engine, in particular for a direct injection diesel oil combustion engine, with at least one region with an intake manifold having a flexible manifold wall, with the flexible manifold wall being formed by an inflatable element. In order to achieve a control of the swirl in the easiest possible manner without having a disadvantageous effect on the intake flow it is provided that the inflatable element is arranged in a recess of the intake manifold wall.
