Between an optical fiber (LF, LFB, LFB) and a surrounding core covering (AH, AH, SB) of an optical transmission element (OEto OE) there is at least one dry and compressible fixating element (FEto FE), which surrounds the optical fiber totally or partially, and which exerts a defined contact pressure against the core covering and against the optical fiber for fixating the optical fiber in the longitudinal direction of the transmission element. The fixating element is further formed and positioned in such a way, that position changes of the optical fiber due to bending or elongation are possible. In this way, unallowable attenuation increases in the optical fiber due to bending or position changes can be avoided.

Optical transmission element

The laser-markable sheathing comprises a carbon-blacked inner PE layer with a soot proportion of 2.5&#xb1;0.5% by weight and an outer PE layer 0.05 to 0.2 mm thick. The outer PE layer completely absorbs the laser radiation (&#x3bb;=532 nm) used for the marking, and the inner layer beneath it remains intact. A largely carbon-free, foamlike structure which greatly scatters incident light serves as an abrasion-proof marking. The sheathing is suitable for cable cores, fiber-optic cable strands, and the like.

Laser-markable sheathing

An apparatus and method for winding cables onto a rotatably driven cable drum without gaps, an oncoming cable being wound in a new coil directly next to the preceding coil at the running-on point, and the running-on angle of the cable being corrected if a monitoring device finds a gap between the last coils. A marking that changes over time is applied to the cable by a marking device before it is wound, and in the marking is detected at least in the new coil and the preceding coil, it being possible for the new coil to be differentiated from the preceding coil.

In addition to the mechanical stresses caused by wind, icing, etc., the manufacturer of an optical aerial cable has to consider the electrical stress mechanisms (corona discharge, &ldquo;tracking&rdquo; effect) which lead to premature aging of the outer jacket by considering constructive measures and the use of special jacket materials. The outer jacket of the aerial cable contains several PE fusible fibers embedded into the jacketing material, whose conductivity is based on the content of carbon black in the amount of 10% of weight to 40% of weight. The resistance of these fusible fibers manufactured by coextrusion with the outer jacket is sufficiently low at 10 &OHgr;/m-10 &OHgr;/m, to discharge the induced electrical charges to the anchoring spirals fastened to the pole. No large potential differences in the longitudinal direction of the cable can occur on the wet, only partially dried jacket surface.

Strand-shaped winding material is continuously supplied to a coil, whereby the position of the winding material is observed with at least one video camera, whereby the data about the wrapping obtained in this way are conducted to a computer unit that initiates a corresponding readjustment. With reference to the coil axis and as seen in radial direction, the position of the apexes of the turns is identified for at least respectively two turns of the new winding ply, and, given a deviation of these apexes from a rated value, a readjustment is implemented in the delivery of the winding material.

In the method for manufacturing a cable (CA,), the individual leads (AD,through ADn) are supplied to a stranding apparatus (RE, RA) that produces a stranded bundle (SB,), whereby the material (MMA,) for the cable cladding (MA,) is applied onto the stranded bundle (SB,) produced in this way with an extruder head (EK,), and the stranding point for the stranding lies in the region of the extruder head (EK,). The individual leads (AD,through ADn) are already brought into contact with the material (MMA,) for the cable cladding (MA,) when or before they have just been completely stranded to form the stranded bundle (SB,).

An optical cable has tensile elements and supporting elements embedded in an extruded outside cladding. The tensile elements are hauled-off from a supply reel and introduced into an extruder head serving to manufacture the outside cladding. The supporting elements are manufactured in a coextrusion with the outside cladding by appropriate channels formed in the extruder head.
