A method of thermally treating black plate which is coated with a conversion coating. The conversion-coated black plate is heated during a thermal treatment time from 0.1 seconds to 30 seconds to a temperature in the range of 240&#xb0; C. to 320&#xb0; C. The heat treatment makes it possible to improve the adhesion of the conversion coating to the black plate surface. In one application of the method, the heat treatment is carried out in a process for the production of corrosion-resistant black plate, in which prior to, during or after the heat treatment, an organic coating in the form of paint or a polymer coating is applied to the conversion coating of the black plate.

A method for producing a corrosion-resistant steel sheet made of an unalloyed or low-alloy and cold-rolled steel having a carbon content of less than 0.1 wt %. The method includes the following steps: applying a metal coating to the steel sheet; annealing the coated steel sheet in a recrystallizing manner by heating the coated steel sheet to temperatures in the recrystallization range by electromagnetic induction in an inert-gas atmosphere; and quenching the coated and annealed steel sheet. The invention relates to a method for producing packaging steel consisting of a cold-rolled steel sheet made of unalloyed or low-alloy steel having a carbon content of less than 0.1%. In order to provide high-strength packaging steel that has good formability and high corrosion resistance and can be produced in as energy-saving a manner as possible, the steel sheet according to the invention is first coated with a metallic coating and then annealed in a recrystallizing manner at a heating rate of more than 75 K/s and preferably more than 100 K/s to temperatures of more than 700&#xb0; C., such that the metallic coating melts. The coated and annealed steel sheet is then quenched to normal temperature at a cooling rate of at least 100 K/s.

The invention relates to a method for treating a steel band or steel plate provided with a metal coating with an after-treatment agent, which contains at least one polyalkylene glycol and is applied as a liquid solution to the surface of the metal coating. According to the invention, in order to achieve improved wetting and adhesion of the covering and at the same time the lowest possible coefficient of friction of the coated surface and in order to ensure good workability of the coated steel band or plate, the after-treatment agent contains a fluorescent antioxidant in addition to the polyalkylene glycol. The invention relates to a method for enhancing a metallic coating on a steel strip or steel plate, the coating being melted by heating to a temperature above the melting temperature of the material of the coating, the heating taking place by irradiation of the surface of the coating with electromagnetic radiation having a high power density over a limited irradiation time of not more than 10 &#x3bc;s, and the mandated irradiation time and the energy density introduced into the coating by the electromagnetic radiation being selected such that the coating melts completely over its entire thickness down to the boundary layer with the steel strip, thereby forming a thin alloy layer at the boundary layer between the coating and the steel strip. The invention further relates to a steel strip or steel plate having a metallic coating, more particularly a coating of tin, zinc or nickel, in which, at the boundary layer between the steel and the coating, an alloy layer which is thin&#x2014;compared with the thickness of the coating&#x2014;and at the same time is dense, and is composed of iron atoms and atoms of the coating material, is formed, the thickness of the alloy layer corresponding to an alloy-layer add-on of less than 0.3 g/m.

Method for enhancing corrosion resistance of a metallic coating on a steel strip or plate

For the manufacture of a ring part out of a flat sheet-metal part to form a lid for a lid of a can. A hot-sealable coating is provided on one side of the sheet-metal part which is then shaped into a cylindrical tube with the coating being on the inside. The axially extending edges of the tube are joined together to form a butt-joint and the inside surface thereof pressed against a cooling plate. A butt-joint welding seam is then created by means of a laser jet. The tube is separated into equal length tube sections and each is conically enlarged at one end. The other end of each tube section is bent radially inwardly to form a bearing surface for a tear-off foil. By flanging the conically enlarged end, an annular flange is created to receive a body of a can.

A method for producing can bodies made of sheet metal for the manufacture of cans includes a step of bringing together and placing one on top of the other of two sheet metal strips. The sheet metal strips, which are placed one on top of the other, are joined by means of several joint welds which extend continuously in the longitudinal direction of the strip through continuous moving of the sheet metal strips past a laser welding device which has several laser heads arranged at corresponding mutual spacings. The sheet metal strips, which are welded together, are longitudinally cut by laser cutting along each weld joint in order to produce several adjacent flat tubes. The welding and the longitudinal cutting are effected simultaneously with one laser head respectively.

An easily-opened can lid includes a cover ring having an outer edge and an inner edge. The inner edge folds inwardly to form an annular flange surrounding a lid opening. A tear-off portion aligned about the annular flange has a lateral area covering the entirety of the lid opening such that the lid opening is smaller than the tear-off portion. An attachment tab is secured at a location on the lateral area of the tear-off portion and an opening ring is secured to that attachment tab. An outside edge of the tear-off portion can be aligned with the inside edge of the cover ring so that the annular flange is entirely covered by the lateral area of the tear-off portion. Heat sealing coatings can be applied to the lateral area of the tear-off portion on a bottom side thereof and to the top side of the annular flange to secure the cover ring to the tear-off portion.

A method of making can bodies from sheet metal for manufacturing cans includes the steps of: feeding and superimposing two sheet metal strips rolled to finished thickness, joining the superimposed sheet metal strips by a plurality of connecting welded seams running continuously in the longitudinal direction of the strip, with a spacing from one another in the transverse direction of the strip corresponding to half the can body diameter, through continuous passage of the superimposed sheet metal strips through a welding device with a plurality of welding heads disposed with corresponding spacings from one another, cutting the sheet metal strips welded together along the middle of each connecting welded seam to create a plurality of flat tubes lying beside one another, optionally rolling up the flat tubes for intermediate storage and/or transport, unrolling the optionally rolled-up flat tubes, cutting the flat tubes transversely into flat tube sections whose length corresponds to approximately the can height, and spreading the individual flat tube section into a can body.
