The invention provides a method for storing video signals at a first rate and reading the stored video signals at a second rate. According to an embodiment of the method, the video signals to be stored are compressed. The compressed video signals are stored in a memory at a first rate. The compressed video signals a read from the memory into a buffer at the first rate. The video signals stored in the buffer are read from the buffer at a second rate such that the video signals are decompressed.

Method for storing video signals with different read/write rates

A method for generating a video effect using a video signal processing device. The method comprises generating horizontal and vertical gating base signals. The horizontal gating base signal is combined with a first modulation signal and the vertical gating base signal is combined with a second modulation signal. An amplitude distribution is generated from the modulated horizontal and vertical gating base signals. A control signal is generated from the amplitude distribution for controlling a mixing stage. A third modulation signal is derived from a sound signal for modulating the control signal.

A method and an arrangement for correcting data which are generated by two asynchronous sources, the data from one source, which are present with a first clock, being conducted via a register which is clocked with a second clock assigned to the other source, the output data of the register and output data that are delayed by at least one clock period of the second clock are compared with one another. In the event of deviations which are greater than a predetermined value, temporally adjacent data, as corrected data, replace the output data of the register.

Color television signals obtained by scanning a still picture are converted into digital video signals and stored in video frame memory for delaying the signals. Undelayed and delayed digital video signals are added together to produce a luminance signal in which the color carrier is suppressed. A circuit for detecting a change of picture provides a start signal after which the first frame of a still picture is stored and is then recycled until there is another picture change. To reduce the effect of recycling, the continuously supplied picture signal is modified by a factor of 1-k, and the recycled picture is modified by the factor k, wherein k varies between 0 and 1 (or 100%) and is a gradually rising function whose rise time extends over a multiplicity, for example 2-4, video frame periods.

Still picture decoder for color television signals having a phase

Both the analog and the video component of a television signal are converted to digital form, the audio component being converted at a much lower sample rate with a word length which is an integral multiple of the video word length. The digital audio component is then compressed by use of a temporary memory and read-out therefrom at a rate that is half of the sample rate of the digtal video component, after which the word length is halved and the word rate doubled in a shift register circuit. In that form the audio component is inserted in horizontal blanking intervals of the video component in a compatible form by a multiplexer, the output of which is read into a single picture field or full picture memory under control of an address generator clocked in synchronism with the incoming video component. The buffer memory is read-out at a rate controlled by a reference signal such as is used for synchronism in a television studio. On the output side the digital video and audio components of the television signal are separated by a demultiplexer, the audio word length is doubled and the word rate halved and the still compressed audio signal is expanded, to make available a substantially continuous digital component. The audio component can then be converted to analog form and will be correctly timed for accompanying the digital video component converted to analog form at the output of the demultiplexer. Separate audio signal delay circuits are thus avoided by the use of relatively simple multiplexing circuits and audio processing circuits.

A highly stable clock pulse frequency (f2), which may be locked to a central clock pulse source of a broadcasting studio, is used to clock digital color television signals out of a buffer memory (1) and is also frequency multiplied by a factor (n). The output of the frequency multiplier (10) is divided by the same factor (n) in a synchronous divider (11) which counts out every nth pulse and to which horizontal synchronization pulses derived from tape recorded television signals are supplied at a reset input of the synchronous divider. The output (f1=f3/n) of the synchronous divider is used both for clocking the analog to digital converter which converts the color television signals picked up from the tape into digital signals and for clocking the entry of those digital signals into the buffer memory (1). Resetting of the divider by horizontal synchronizing pulses containing the same timing errors as the digital signals put into the buffer memory, causes the divider to begin a fresh counting cycle on the next positive flank of a frequency-multiplied clock pulse (f3), thus correcting the timing errors except for a possible residual timing error which is less than the oscillation period of the frequency multiplied clock pulses, which can be made smaller by using a higher multiplication and division factor (n).
