In a print head having a bimorph thin-film piezo actuator, the piezo-electric actuator is arranged on a membrane at a first side of the piezo-electric actuator and a passive layer is arranged on the piezo-electric actuator at a second side of the piezo-electric actuator, wherein the second side is opposite to the first side. The membrane is more compliant, at least in a lateral direction, for contraction than the passive layer. Thus, a bending direction of the actuator is affected. As a consequence, there is no need for a bias voltage on the actuator during a standby state of the print head. Omitting the bias voltage during standby results in an increased lifetime and stability of the actuator assembly.

An image-forming element for an electrostatic printer is provided with an endless support having thereon a dielectric surface layer with image-forming electrodes beneath the surface of the dielectric layer. The image-forming electrodes comprise two groups, the first group being insulated from one another and extending parallel to one another in the peripheral direction of the support in the form of endless paths. Beneath the first group of electrodes, a second group of electrodes is provided also being insulated from one another and extending parallel to one another from one end of the support in the direction of the other end of the support. In each case, one of the electrodes of the first group is electrically connected to one of the electrodes of the second group. A voltage means for supplying voltage to the image-forming electrodes of the second group is also provided.

An image-forming element for an electrostatic printer is provided with an endless support having thereon a dielectric surface layer and a number of image-forming electrodes beneath the surface of the dielectric layer. In the zone of the image-forming element that is used for image formation, the electrodes extend parallel to one another in the form of helix, having a pitch which is at least equal to the working width of the image-forming element so that each electrode appears only once in a line of the image. Each electrode is connected to a voltage means for supplying voltage to the electrodes. The voltage means is disposed on the surface of the endless support outside the zone used for image formation.
