Process for the disintegration and cleaning of contaminant-containing raw paper stocks. The process includes producing a contaminant-containing suspension, feeding the contaminant-containing suspension to a closed coarse screen, drawing of a cleaned flow fraction from the closed coarse screen, and drawing off an overflow fraction containing an increased amount of contaminants from the coarse screen during at least about 80% of an operating time. The process also includes adjusting a volumetric mass flow of the overflow fraction to at least about 15% and maximally about 50% of a volumetric mass flow of an inflow into the coarse screen, and feeding the overflow fraction to a screening device, in which contaminants collected are sluiced out discontinuously as a further overflow fraction, thereby forming a further cleaned flow fraction.

Process for the breaking and cleaning of contaminant-containing raw paper stocks, in particular of recovered paper

Pressurized screen to remove contaminants from a contaminant-containing fibrous paper suspension. Pressurized screen includes a housing, a first screen element, essentially axially symmetric and rotatably mounted within housing, and a second screen element, which is essentially axially symmetric. First and second screen elements are successively arranged in suspension flow direction. At least one intake, coupled to housing, supplies suspension to housing, and at least one accepts outlet, coupled to housing, conveys a part of suspension that passes through the second screen element out of housing. At least one coarse reject outlet is located within housing to remove a part of suspension not passing through first screen element, and at least one fine reject outlet is located within housing to remove a part of suspension not passing through second screen element. First screen element includes conical shape with opening angle (&agr;) between about 10&deg; and 170&deg;.

Pressurized screen and process for removing contaminants from a fibrous paper suspension containing contaminants

Process for manufacturing a sifting device (or strainer baskets) for use in, e.g., in the paper industry for sorting and/or filtering fiber pulp suspensions. Sorter slits may be created between a plurality of substantially parallel rods inserted into respective insets formed in a support element. The rods may be securely held in place by first inserting the rods into the insets and then by permanently bonding the placement of the rods in the support elements with a bonding agent, e.g., as hard-soldering or brazing.

A sorter with a symmetric screen which is arranged concentrically in an essentially symmetric housing, and in the interior of which there is contained a concentric rotor drum that features on its periphery sorting elements sweeping across the screen, circulating at least parts of the suspension being sorted around the walls of the drum. The sorting elements are of a design such that they will generate a vortex flow of the suspension in the housing. The housing features at its periphery at least one removal duct for heavy contaminants and, in one of its end walls, a central lightweight dirt drain. The housing end wall that features the lightweight dirt drain has, in the direction away from the screen and the rotor drum, from radially outside to radially inside, a diameter that tapers in conic fashion by maximally 11 mm per each 3 mm of axial housing length, and minimally by 2 mm per each 3 mm of axial housing length.

Sorter having a housing with conical shaped end wall

The invention relates to a stuffing box seal to provide a sealing action between a stationary wall of a housing or the like and a shaft. In accordance with the invention the shaft is provided with a collar, or with a ring or ring flange, which is sealingly connected with the shaft and is such a manner as to prevent relative twist, having an annular surface perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the shaft, against which ring surface box packing bears with a sealing action in the direction parallel to the shaft axis.

Stuffing box seal

A screening apparatus is disclosed having at least one housing attachment element and a main housing element, each of which has a hollow cylindrical and/or truncated-cone-shaped housing outer wall. The apparatus includes at least two coaxial, predominantly rotationally symmetrical screen baskets and a rotor having pulsation elements. An accepts chamber is disposed radially outside the screen baskets and the rotor and pulsation elements are disposed radially inside the screen baskets. An inlet of the housing is disposed centrally in the area between the screen baskets and an outlet channel allowing for access in the area between the two screen baskets. The invention is characterized in that at least in the area of the screen baskets, only one main housing element and one attachment element are provided and that the first screen basket is disposed in the attachment element and the second screen basket is disposed in the main housing element.

Double screen basket apparatus

A pressure sorter for a suspension flow includes a cylindrical housing having at least one inlet opening and at least one outlet opening with a defined pressure drop therebetween. A rotationally symmetric screen basket defining an axis is disposed within the housing. The screen basket has a plurality of openings defining a total screen perforation passage area. The axis of the screen basket is positioned offset a distance of 6 to 12% of the diameter of the screen basket. The axis of the screen basket is disposed in a plane which extends through the housing axis and is perpendicular to the housing outlet opening. A rotor and suspension sorting space are disposed centrically within the screen basket. An accepts space is disposed radially outward of the screen basket between the screen basket and the housing. The accepts space has a cross section causing a pressure drop between the suspension sorting space and the accepts space resulting in a suspension flow through the screen openings having a maximum velocity of 2.5 m/s, and a deviation to higher suspension flow velocity values from an arithmetic mean value based on the total screen perforation passage area across the entire screen basket circumference amounting to a maximum of 25% of the mean value.

Pressure sorter

The invention concerns a sorter with at least two screen baskets in a housing unit. The invention is characterized in that with screen basket diameters of at least 600 mm the at least two screen baskets are contained side by side, spaced, in an arrangement such that their longitudinal center axes extend parallel to each other and their end sides or end surfaces are contained each in identical planes extending perpendicularly to the longitudinal center axes of the screen baskets.

Fiber suspensions sorter having a plurality of screen baskets

The rotor of a sorter has a circumference which, in cross section perpendicular to the rotor axis of rotation, is essentially composed of circular arcs. Depending on sorter size, the number of circular arcs amounts to between two and eight. The eccentricity of the circular arcs relative to their center, based on the rotor axis of rotation, amounts to preferably between 4 and 10 mm. This makes it possible to obtain slight rotor stresses at a good sorting efficacy, preferably also with a mean substance density of more than 3% of fiber suspensions. The difference between the smallest and greatest rotor spacing e=f.sub.max -f.sub.min amounts to maximally 60 mm, preferably 20 mm.

Device for screening fiber suspensions

A sorting apparatus for sorting fiber suspensions heavily laden with rubbish and other contaminants, which sorter has two successive sorting units each having a ring-shaped strainer space, which are likewise successive, and an accepts space with a rotationally symmetric strainer between the accepts space and strainer space. The first sorting unit is pressurized above atmospheric pressure; diluting water is fed to the second unit strainer space; and a rotating plate is mounted between the first and second sorting units to control the flow between the strainer spaces.

Rejects sorting apparatus

Fibrous stock suspension preparation systems include moving parts that generate a vibration impulse flow in the outlet from the preparation system. A counter-vibration impulse generator is connected to the outlet pipe and includes a correcting impulse recorder also connected to the outlet pipe for sensing the vibrations of the flow therepast and for sending a signal to the counter-vibration generator to control the amplitude and/or the frequency of the counter-vibration generator. A further impulse recorder between the stock suspension preparation system and the first mentioned impulse recorder is also connected to the outlet pipe for providing a stock transit time correction signal for correcting the signal of the first mentioned impulse recorder.

Apparatus for damping vibrations in stock suspension flow

A sorter having a rotationally symmetric screen including a drain space for receiving overflow material (rejects) connected axially above the screen. A screen space is provided radially outside of the screen and an accepts drain space is connected to the screen space above the screen and surrounding the drain space. The screen space receives the flow through material (accepts) and, in its upper portion, includes a gas space for dampening.

Fibrous suspension pressurized sorter

The disclosure concerns a rotor for use in a pulper for forming a pulp suspension through rotation of the rotor in a pulp container. The rotor is generally conically shaped. Around the exterior of the rotor wind a plurality of helical conveyor elements. Each conveyor element includes a flat surface that is oriented obliquely at an acute angle to the axis of the rotor, and the angle of the conveyor element surface with respect to the rotor axis decreases upwardly along the rotor. On the peripheral edge of the conveyor element at the bottom of the rotor, an additional vane is defined which extends outwardly of the conveyor element. The vane is tilted at a different angle to the rotor axis than the conveyor element and is typically more nearly perpendicular to the rotor axis. The outer peripheral edges of the conveyor element and of the additional vane are sharpened to define cutting edges and may be additionally clad.

Rotor for a pulper

An apparatus for dissolving pulp and producing a paper pulp suspension for use in papermaking. The apparatus comprises a container having a stirring rotor therein and, in the area of the lower wall of the container, an outlet chamber to which is connected a dilution water inlet pipe and an outlet pipe. A plate connected to the stirring elements defines the upper extremity of an outlet space and has a plurality of radial ribs connected thereto and extending downwardly into the outlet chamber. As the plate is rotated, the ribs cause mixing of the suspension which flows downwardly into the outlet chamber together with the dilution water to thereby produce a suspension having a lower consistency than the suspension within the container itself. In order to prevent dilution of the suspension within the main area of the container, a retaining wall is provided on the lower surface of the plate at a position radially outward of the axis of rotation. This wall substantially impedes the flow of the more dilute solution and water between the plate and wall of the container into the main portion of the container itself.
