The disclosure describes a handle assembly for a power tool that includes attachment means for attaching the assembly to a housing of a power tool. The handle means is adapted to be held by a user of the power tool and the handle means is mounted to the attachment means and is capable of limited movement relative to the housing of the power tool. The vibration damping means acts between said housing and said handle means. The vibration damping means can also comprise elastomeric material. The attachment means can be mounted in use to the housing via a bolt on one of the attachment means and the housing passing through a respective aperture in the other of said attachment means and the housing. At least some of the elastomeric material is arranged in use between at least one said bolt and a corresponding said aperture. The handle means can be pivotable and/or slidable relative to said attachment means. The vibration damping means can comprise at least one spring (e.g., compression/spring or torsion spring).

Vibration reduction apparatus for power tool and power tool incorporating such apparatus

A power tool has a handle capable of limited movement mounted to its housing. An axle is rotatably connected to the housing and is movable between a first and second positions and is spring biased towards the first position. Arms are connected to and rotate with the axle. Connectors are slidably mounted within guides and are connected at one end to the arms and at the other end to the handle. Vibrations in the body of the power tool cause movement of one end of the handle, which causes movement of a connector and in turn movement of an arm. Movement of the arm causes rotation of the axle which therefore causes movement of the other arm. This in turn causes the related connector to slide within its guide and move the other end of handle. Thus, movement of one end of the handle is coupled to the other end.

A rotary spindlefor a power tool such as a hammer drill is disclosed. The spindlecomprises a first spindle partfor rotation about its longitudinal an axis by means of a motor and having an inwardly directed rim, and a second spindle partfor supporting a drill bit of the hammer drill and having an outwardly directed rim. The second spindle partextends through an aperturein the first spindle partand rimscooperate with each other to prevent removal of the second spindle partfrom the first spindle part. A circliplocks the first and second spindle partstogether and maintains o-ringsunder compression.

Rotary spindle for power tool and power tool incorporating such spindle

A power hammer has a handle mounted to a housing and capable of limited movement relative thereto. A hollow axle is attached to the housing and is rotatable between a first and second position and is biased towards the first position by a torsional spring which extends within the axle. Rotation of the axle causes rotation of arms connected thereto. Connectors are slidably mounted within guides and are respectively connected at one end to each of the arms and at the other end to the handle. Vibrations in the housing cause movement of one end of the handle, which causes movement of the associated connector and arm. Movement of the one arm causes rotation of the axle, which therefore causes movement of the other arm and connector, and the other end of the handle. Thus, the movement of one end of the handle is coupled to the other end.

A power tool has a handle assembly which is biased by a torsional spring. The torsional spring has an engaging arm the position of which is fixed relative to the housing by an adjusting mechanism. The adjusting mechanism has a lever which extends outside the housing of the power tool, and a cam surface, and is mounted on and rotatable at least partially around an axle. In use, the tension in the torsional spring may be adjusted by movement of the lever. The lever is moved, causing rotation of the adjusting cam around the axle. As a result, the cam surface causes the engaging arm of the spring to be moved axially along the axle and more or less tension is applied to the torsional spring.

A hand held electrically powered hammer comprises a housing, a motor, and a hollow spindle. A piston and a ram are located for reciprocation within the spindle. A casing encloses at least part of the spindle so as to define a chamber between the spindle and the casing. A damping mass is slideably supported by a spacer and is located within the chamber and is connected to the hammer housing via a spring so as to oscillate back and forth along the spindle to minimize the vibration of the hammer housing and also so as to generate air flows within the chamber for facilitating heat transfer from the spindle to the metal casing.

A powered jig saw comprises a holder for a saw blade at the lower end of the reciprocating drive shaft. The holder is adjustable, by rotation of an actuating section, between an open position and a closed position for holding the saw blade. The actuating section comprises, in the interior of an upwardly open tube portion of the drive shaft, an engagement surface which, for the purpose of rotating the actuating section, engages with a working surface of a rotatable adjustment device which is stationary when the drive shaft is driven. The upper end portion of the drive shaft is mounted, so as to be capable of axial displacement, in a guide bush, above which there is a holding device of the adjustment device, in which holding device there is fixed a downwardly extending element comprising the working surface. A pendulum mechanism serves to generate a swivelling movement of the drive shaft. The guide bush, for the purpose of accommodating the swivelling movement of the drive shaft generated by the pendulum mechanism, is pivotally mounted within the housing and the holding device is supported on the guide bush and held in engagement therewith by spring force. In this way, tilting or swivelling of the engagement surface of the actuating section relative to the working surface of the adjustment device during the pendulum operation is prevented.

Powered jig saw

A hand-held power tool with a rotary driven tool, in particular a planer or a circular saw, is arranged so that on switching off the drive, which can be switched on and off by means of a trigger (15), a brake element (34), which is ineffective when the drive is switched on, is brought into braking engagement with a brake part (51) rotatingly driven by the drive. The tool comprises a safety element (21) which co-operates with the trigger (15) and which can be displaced between a safety position in which the trigger (15) cannot be moved to switch on the drive, and a release position in which the trigger (15) can be moved into the position to switch on the drive. The safety element (21) is urged by spring pressure towards the safety position and is held in the release position when the trigger (15)L is in the switch-on position. The safety element (21) is coupled mechanically with the brake element (34) so that in the release position of the safety element the brake element is not in the braking engagement, and in the safety position it is in braking engagement.
