A media feeder including a tray arranged to hold media, a motor arranged to move the tray in a first direction and a second direction opposite the first direction, a sensor arranged to detect at least one position of the tray, a processor arranged to execute a set of steps, and a memory element arranged to store the set of steps. The set of steps includes: receiving a first input from a user selecting a first loading preference; moving the tray with the motor in the first direction a first distance from the first position to a second position; loading a first quantity of media into the tray; and, moving the tray in the second direction until a first sheet of the first quantity of media is in a feeding position.

Method for loading a media feeder to accommodate users with disabilities

An inkjet printhead including an inkjet configured to eject drops of ink in response to receiving an electrical signal, a memory configured to store image data, and a processor operatively coupled to the inkjet and the memory. The processor receives the image data and determines a period of latency of the inkjet printhead. When the period of latency is within a predetermined timeframe, the processor increases a voltage of the electrical signal to a second voltage for an initial number of drops to eject the drops of ink in a pattern of printed ink drops with reference to at least a portion of the image data and reduce the voltage of the electrical signal after the initial number of drops to eject drops of ink in a pattern of printed ink drops with reference to a remaining portion of the image data, and generates the electrical signal.

Methods and systems for ejecting drops from inkjets following a period of latency

A direct-to-object printer includes an object rotating subsystem. The object rotating subsystem includes an actuator with an output shaft, a holder mounted to the output shaft, the holder being configured to grip a portion of the object, and a controller operatively connected to the actuator. The controller is configured to operate the actuator to rotate the holder and the object gripped by the holder to enable at least one of the printheads in a printer to print a portion of a circumference of the object that is longer than a width of the at least one printhead.

System and method for rotating a three-dimensional (3D) object during printing of the object

A method of loading a media feeder of a printer system including: receiving a first input from a user selecting a first loading preference; storing a first position of the tray in at least one memory element; moving with at least one motor, the tray in a first direction a first distance from the first position to a second position; loading a first quantity of media into the tray; receiving a second input indicating the first quantity of media has been loaded into the tray; and, moving the tray in a second direction, opposite the first direction, until a first sheet of the first quantity of media is in a feeding position for the printer.

A method of filling a print head includes drawing a vapor into an empty print head to displace any air in the print head and filling the print head with ink. A method of filling a print head includes connecting a print head to a vacuum pump using a first valve, to a liquid supply using a second valve, and to an ink supply using a third valve, opening the first and second valves, applying vacuum to the print head and liquid supply using the vacuum pump, causing the liquid to generate a vapor that moves into the print head, closing the first valve and the second valve, and opening the third valve to move ink into the print head.

Water-vapor assist for filling aqueous print heads

An imaging device includes at least one printhead including an aperture plate defining a plurality of apertures, an ink plate and a controller. The at least one printhead is configured to eject liquid ink through the plurality of apertures of the aperture plate. The ink plate is positioned with reference to the aperture plate to enable an ink layer to form between the ink plate and the aperture plate by ink ejected by the printhead. The controller operatively connected to the printhead and configured to operate the printhead to eject the liquid ink to the ink plate to form the link layer.

Ink barrier formed on printhead to prevent air intake

An ink transport system for a phase change ink printer has been developed that enables accurate control of refilling a second ink reservoir from a first ink reservoir with minimal moving parts. The system includes a thermoelectric device that is operatively connected to a thermally conductive tube, which fluidly connects the first and second ink reservoirs. The thermoelectric device is operated by a controller to heat phase change ink in the thermally conductive tube and enable flow of ink from the first reservoir to the second reservoir, and to remove heat from the phase change ink in the thermally conductive tube to solidify ink in the tube and disable flow of ink from the first reservoir to the second reservoir.

System for transporting phase change ink using a thermoelectric device

A method for operating a printer having multiple printheads includes activating a heater that is operatively connected to a printhead that ejects ink having a single color in response to receiving a print job. The printer detects the presence of colors other than the single color in image data received in the print job, and activates heaters operatively coupled to printheads that eject ink drops that correspond to the detected colors.
