The invention includes, in one embodiment, a method for determining the presence or absence of a corrosion-inhibitory level of carboxylate anion in used engine coolant which includes: obtaining a known quantity of the engine coolant as a representative sample thereof, the sample containing a level of carboxylate anion to be determined; adding a fixed quantity of an aluminum containing color indicator to the sample, where the color of the aluminum color indicator is different from the original color of the sample, thereby changing the color of the sample to substantially the color of the aluminum color indicator, where at least a portion of the aluminum color indicator complexes with at least a portion of the carboxylate anion to form a colored insoluble aluminum-carboxylate complex, where the colored insoluble aluminum-carboxylate complex precipitates, and where the color of the sample remains substantially the color of the aluminum color indicator when the level of carboxylate anion therein is below an effective corrosion-inhibitory amount and where the color of the sample returns substantially to the original color of the sample when the level of carboxylate anion is at an effective corrosion-inhibitory amount; and observing the color of the sample.

The present invention comprises an improved antifreeze coolant composition with certain additives that serve to increase the thermal stability of the glycol component of a glycol/water coolant composition and to reduce the tendency of the glycol component to degrade under elevated thermal conditions. These additives comprise organic compounds with a carboxylic acid moiety and a hydroxyl moiety, and also tricarballylic acid. Another aspect of this invention concerns a method for improving the stability of the glycol component of a glycol/water coolant composition in engine cooling/heating systems by formulating a glycol/water coolant composition with the thermal stability additive to form an improved coolant composition, and contacting the engine cooling/heating system with the improved coolant composition.

A process of converting linear olefins to branched olefins by a skeletal isomerization reaction wherein said reaction is carried out at a temperature of between about 300.degree. C. and about 650.degree. The method of converting n-butylenes to isobutylene by a skeletal isomrization reaction wherein said reaction is carried out at a temperature of between 300.degree. C. and 650.degree. C., under a pressure of between 0.1 and 100 atmospheres and a space velocity of said n-butylenes of between 0.1 and 40 WHSV using a cagalyst comprising a zeolite binder selected frm the group consisting of alumina, silica, silica-alumina, clay and a combination thereof, said catalyst having a pore size of at least about 4.5 angstroms and the pore size structure is characteried by intersecting 10-member ring and 8-member ring channels.

Skeletal isomerization of n-olefins to iso-olefins on binded ferrierite

The conversion of normal olefins such as n-butylenes can be converted to branched olefin species such as isobutylene by skeletal isomerization over zeolite-based catalysts having pore sizes of at least about 4.5 Angstroms and a pore structure characterized by intersecting 10-MR and 8 MR channels. The zeolite-based catalysts have sufficient acidity to catalyze the skeletal isomerization of normal olefins. The catalysts can be used to produce isoolefins for reaction with alcohols in integrated processes to produce alkyl tertiary alkyl ethers such as MTBE.

Reforming and dehydrocyclization catalysts and processes are disclosed wherein reforming catalysts comprise a Group VIII metal and at least one bound medium pore non-zeolitic molecular sieve characterized in the calcined form by an adsorption of isobutane of at least 2 percent by weight at a partial pressure of 500 torr and a temperature of 20.degree. C. and characterized by an adsorption of triethylamine less than about 5 percent by weight at a partial pressure of 2.6 torr and a temperature of 22.degree. C. The binder preferably is alumina and/or silica, and the Group VIII metal preferably is platinum.

Molecular sieve agglomerates exhibiting reduced pore mouth blockage and decreased diffusivity resistance to the internal sieve pores result from coating, prior to addition of a binding agent to the sieve, the molecular sieve particles with an organic polymer, fixing the polymer to the sieve surface so that it exhibits no migratory tendencies and subsequently removing the coating by combustion during calcination of the formed agglomerate. Such agglomerates showed enhanced activity and selectivity in typical refining processes such as dewaxing and fluid catalytic cracking. The molecular sieve agglomerates also may be employed in other hydrocarbon conversion processes such as hydrocracking, dehydrocyclization, isomerization, hydrofining, reforming, and dealkylation.
