A liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) display device and an electronic device are disclosed. The LCOS display device includes a wafer substrate and a pixel electrode layer over the wafer substrate. The pixel electrode layer comprises a plurality of pixel electrodes, and a reflector stack or at least a stack comprised of, stacked vertically downward, a first high refractive index insulating layer and a first low refractive index insulating layer is arranged between every adjacent two pixel electrodes. By arranging the reflector stacks or stacked layers (in the gaps) between adjacent pixel electrodes, the gaps exhibit higher reflectivity and produce less diffraction noise.

A near-eye display device includes (a) a display unit for displaying a display image, (b) a viewing unit for presenting the display image to the eye and transmitting ambient light from an ambient scene toward the eye, and (c) an eye imaging unit including (i) an illumination module for generating at least three infrared light beams propagating along at least three different, non-coplanar directions, respectively, (ii) a first beamsplitter interface, disposed between the display unit and the viewing unit, for merging at least a portion of each of the infrared light beams with visible display light to direct each portion toward the eye via the viewing unit, and (iii) a camera for imaging, via the viewing unit and the first beamsplitter interface, pupil of the eye and reflections of the infrared light beams incident on the eye, to form one or more images indicative of gaze direction of the eye.

Near-eye display device and methods with coaxial eye imaging

A micro LED display and a manufacturing method thereof are disclosed. A plurality of electrode structures is formed on a first surface of a substrate, and a plurality of circuit structure are formed in the substrate, where the circuit structures are electrically connected to the electrode structures. An LED functional layer is formed on the substrate, and includes a plurality of mutually isolated LED functional structures, where the LED functional structures are corresponding and electrically connected to the electrode structures. An electrode layer covers the LED functional layer and is electrically connected to the LED functional structures. Micro lenses are formed on the electrode layer and corresponding to the LED functional structures. Therefore, all the LED functional structures can be wholly used as a light-emitting region of a pixel, improving light emission efficiency of the micro LED display.

Micro LED display and manufacturing method thereof

A liquid crystal display includes a display area and a border area at least partially surrounding the display area, where the display area displays images for viewing and the border area displays display-protection images, which are used to control ion migration in the liquid crystal layer. In a more particular embodiment, the border area displays a series of checkerboard pattern(s), where the checkerboard patterns can alternate between initial and inverted values. The display-protection images protect the liquid crystal display from migrating ions accumulating in particular regions of the pixel array and causing permanent defects in the display area. A liquid crystal display that includes a liquid crystal alignment layer having a plurality of liquid crystal alignment directions is also disclosed. The customized liquid crystal alignment director(s) over the border area promote ion migration away from the display area.

System and method for protecting a liquid crystal display by controlling ion migration

A lensed beam-splitter prism array includes a beam-splitter substrate with a plurality of planar and parallel thin-film coatings each spanning a top substrate surface and a bottom substrate surface, and making an oblique angle therebetween, and a lens form layer formed on the top surface and having a plurality of lens forms, each lens form being above one of the plurality of coatings. A method for fabricating a lensed beam-splitter prism includes bonding a plurality of substrates to form a substrate stack having a coating between each adjacent substrate pair. The method also includes forming a stack slice by applying a plurality of parallel cuts at an oblique angle with respect to each coating. Each coating spans a first stack-slice surface and a second stack-slice surface opposing the first stack-slice surface. The method also includes forming a lens form layer on the first stack-slice surface spanning one or more coatings.

Lensed beam-splitter prism array and associated method

A method of forming packaged lens modules is disclosed which includes: securing first ends of a plurality of lens modules equidistantly on a first mold plate; providing a second mold plate matching with second ends of the lens modules and securing the second mold plate on the second ends of the lens modules; filling a black material in gaps between the lens modules; and removing the first and second mold plates after the black material is cured and performing a dicing process. The method can effectively block lens openings to protect lenses from being contaminated and can eliminate the need for adhesive application and removal generally performed on second ends of the lens modules, thereby resulting in time savings and an efficiency improvement. Additionally, a height of the resulting packaged lens modules can be modified for back focal length compensation thereof by changing the size of the second mold plate.

Arrayed imaging systems having improved alignment and associated methods

A near-eye display device, with coaxial eye imaging, for mounting in field of view of an eye of a user, includes a display unit for displaying a display image, a viewing unit for (i) presenting the display image to the eye based upon polarized visible light received from the display unit and (ii) transmitting ambient light from an ambient scene toward the eye, and an eye imaging unit including (a) an illumination module for generating infrared light, (b) a first polarizing beamsplitter interface, disposed between the display unit and the viewing unit, for (i) merging a polarized infrared component of the infrared light with the polarized visible light and (ii) separating from the polarized visible light a portion of the polarized infrared component reflected by the eye, and (c) a camera for forming an image of the eye based upon the polarized infrared component reflected by the eye.

Suspended lenses in a spacer wafer and lens-in-a-pocket structures are replicated from UV-transparent molds. The fabrication of UV-transparent molds can include providing a substrate with pedestals, fabricating a lens on each pedestal using a step-and-repeat process, replicating an intermediate mold from the substrate with pedestals having lenses on the pedestals, and replicating a UV-transparent mold from the intermediate mold. The fabrication of UV-transparent molds can also include providing a substrate with holes, fabricating a lens in each hole and replicating a UV-transparent mold from the substrate with the holes having the lenses.

Methods for forming a lens plate for an integrated camera using UV-transparent molds and methods for forming UV-transparent molds

A method of manufacturing LCOS panel is disclosed. The method includes: providing a silicon substrate on which at least one conductive pad is formed and a transparent substrate on which a transparent electrode layer is formed; dispensing or coating a sealing material on a predetermined area of the silicon substrate or the transparent substrate; bonding the silicon substrate with the transparent substrate; singulating the bonded silicon substrate and transparent substrate such that at least one space is provided between the silicon substrate and the transparent substrate on an outer side of the sealing material and a part of the transparent electrode layer is exposed in the space; and dispensing a conductive adhesive into the space to connect the transparent electrode layer to the conductive pad. The method is able to achieve a smaller-size of the LCOS panels, a higher production yield and a lower process requirement.

LCOS panel and method of manufacturing the same

A wafer-level bonding method for fabricating wafer level camera lenses is disclosed. The method includes: providing a lens wafer including lenses arranged in an array and a sensor wafer including sensors arranged in an array; measuring and analyzing an FFL of each lens to obtain a corresponding FFL compensation value for each lens; forming a thin transparent film (TTF) on each sensor of the sensor wafer, and the thickness of TTF is determined by the FFL compensation value of the corresponding lens; aligning and bonding the lens wafer with the sensor wafer having TTFs formed thereon. Since the focal length of each lens is adjusted to compensate the FFL of the lens by adding a TTF of transparent optical material with an index of refraction that is similar to the index of refraction of the sensor cover glass, the FFL variation of each camera lens can be reduced.
