The marker has a pair of upwardly converging reflectant planar panels facing approximately in opposite directions. In its correct attitude on a support surface the panels slope at 2.degree.-6.degree. to the vertical if the marker is intended for assisting the landing of fixed wing aircraft and at 8.degree.-10.degree. to the vertical if the marker is intended for assisting the landing of helicopters (Collectively at 2.degree.-10.degree. to the vertical). The reflectant panels are preferably retroreflectant. Preferably the opposed sloping panels converge when considered relative to intersecting horizontal planes (when the marker is properly levelled). This convergence may also be measured as the angle between vertical planes respectively perpendicular to the opposed panels. Such convergence in plan may preferably be 0.degree.-6.degree. for use with fixed wing aircraft but may be larger for fixed wing aircraft in certain conditions. Such convergence in plan is preferably 16.degree.-20.degree. in markers used with helicopters. Collectively for fixed wing aircraft and helicopters the convergence in plan may therefore be considered as 0.degree.-20.degree..

Two sided marker

A runway marker has a pair of upwardly converging reflectant planar panels facing approximately in opposite directions. In its correct attitude on a support surface the panels slope at 2.degree.-6.degree. to the vertical if the marker is intended for assisting the landing of fixed wing aircraft and at 8.degree.-10.degree. to the vertical if the marker is intended for assisting the landing of helicopters. The reflectant panels are preferably retroreflectant.

Two sided runway marker

A remote area landing system combines retro reflective markers with a lighting system. The markers reflect light from a landing aircraft or helicopter. The preferred marker is aluminum with a polycarbonate cover layer. The lights are solar powered and are radio controlled from the aircraft.

Remote area landing system

An edge light marker provides a standard for attachment to an edge light mount with a retro-reflective sleeve slidable onto and off the standard. The sleeve is preferably make of limp constituency and is shaped by the standard.

A reflector has 3 planar reflecting surfaces with the upper and lower surfaces each intersecting the central plane at an angle between 145.degree. and 150.degree., each reflecting surface being composed of individually imperceptible cube corner reflectors.

Three panel reflector

A reflectant surface of retro reflective material comprises a plurality of parallel convex outward ribs having a center-to-center spacing of between 3/8' and 1/16'. The retro reflective surface preferably employs an arrangement of triads mutually perpendicular surfaces, which triads and surfaces are indistinguishable at normal minimum viewing distances.

Ribbed reflector

A truncated pyramidal pylon, has retroreflectant side walls each sloping at 8.degree.-10.degree. to the vertical for helicopters and 3.degree.-6.degree. to the vertical for fixed wing aircraft. The pylon may be constructed as a permanently erected unit or as a collapsible arrangement from hingedly connected flat surfaces, with a surface corresponding to each side, foldable to provide the assembled pylon.

Pylon

A direction indicating reflector uses two planar reflecting panels arranged at an included angle of about 60.degree. to each other. Each panel provides an optically exposed plurality of cube corners arranged in triads of mutually perpendicular retro reflectant surfaces which are not individually distinguishable at minimum expected viewing distances.
