A pneumatic tire for use in a lubricated tire and wheel assembly which has a braced tread, wider than its rim and sidewalls reinforced by radial cords. The thickness of the sidewalls is at least 5% of the maximum width of the tire and at least 30% of it comprises rubber on the inside of the tire carcass.

Pneumatic tires

A pneumatic tire and wheel assembly containing an enclosing means for a lubricating material. The enclosing means will release the lubricating material into the tire when the tire becomes deflated.

Tire and wheel assemblies

A pneumatic tire having a coating of lubricating material on the interior surface thereof to reduce friction between the contacting portions of the interior surfaces when the tire is used in a deflated condition. The coating may be on only the contacting portions of the internal surfaces which so come into contact, of which the following is a specification.

A radial ply tire comprises a tread, sidewall and bead regions. At least the region of severe flexing of the sidewall when the tire is run in a deflated or substantially under-inflated condition comprises a rubber compound which has a rebound resilience of at least 87 percent, and more preferably of at least 90 percent, measured by the .[.Lupke.]. .Iadd.Dunlop .Iaddend.pendulum method according to B.S. 903/1950 and a hardness in the range of 45- 65 Shore A.

A pneumatic tire and vehicle wheel assembly, the wheel being of the split-rim type without a tire mounting well in the base portion of the rim. A support member is provided extending radially fr0m the base portion of the rim to contact and support the tread region of the tire when the tire is wholly or partially deflated. The support member is preferably of L-section so as to have a cantilever flange to contact the tire and is preferably heat-conductive. A lubricant is preferably included in the tire cavity which will be between the tire and support member when the former contacts the latter. The support member is preferably adjacent one of the bead seats of the rim to serve the secondary purpose of retaining the tire bead on said seat. The support member may be an integral, radially outer part of the wheel disc or a separate, annular component surrounding the base portion of the rim.

Vehicle wheels

A tire and wheel assembly having a lubricant to enable it to be operated in a deflated condition without destructive heating in which one or more ingredients of the lubricant composition are enclosed in an enclosing means, the other ingredient or ingredients of the composition being placed in the inflation chamber of the assembly. The enclosing means release the first ingredient or ingredients into the inflation chamber, upon loss of inflation pressure, to form the composition.

A pneumatic tire and wheel assembly comprises an enclosing means for a lubricating material which releases the lubricating material into the tire when the tire becomes deflated. A counterbalancing mass counterbalances the mass of the enclosing means and the lubricating material so that when the lubricating material is released the assembly becomes out-of-balance, of which the following is a specification.
