A method of treating human skin to decrease transepidermal water loss. A method of enhancing the substantivity of conditioning compounds applied to the skin. A film forming conditioning formulation which includes as an ingredient thereof an organosilicon compound is applied to the skin. The improvement resides in the utilization of a formulation which includes as the organosilicon compound a cyclic alkylmethyl polysiloxane.

The improvement resides in the utilization of a formulation which is dimethylpolysiloxane free and which includes as the organosilicon compound an alkylmethyl polysiloxane.

Alkylmethylsiloxanes for skin care

This invention relates to alkylmethylsiloxanes mixtures which are useful for softening and moisturizing skin. The mixtures comprise one or more alkylmethylsiloxane solvents of the structure [MeRSiO].sub.a [Me.sub.2 SiO].sub.b or R'Me.sub.2 SiO(MeRSiO).sub.w (Me.sub.2 SiO).sub.x SiR'Me.sub.2 and one or more alkylmethylsiloxane waxes of the structure R'Me.sub.2 SiO(Me.sub.2 SiO).sub.y (MeRSiO).sub.z SiMe.sub.2 R', wherein each R is independently a hydrocarbon of 6 to 30 carbon atoms, R' is methyl or R, a is 1-6, b is 0-5, w is 0-5 and x is 0-5, provided a+b is 3-6 and w is not 0 if R' is methyl.

Alkylmethylsiloxane mixtures for skin care

A method of increasing the absorbance of ultraviolet light by sunscreen active compounds which are applied to a surface to protect the surface from excessive exposure to sunlight. A mixture is formed which includes at least one sunscreen active compound and an effective amount of a phenyl functional siloxane. The mixture is applied to the surface to be protected from excessive exposure to sunlight, and the surface including the mixture of the sunscreen active compound and the phenyl functional siloxane is exposed to light in the ultraviolet spectrum. A composition having increased absorbance of ultraviolet light for applying to a surface to protect the surface from excessive exposure to sunlight is also disclosed.
