A method of metadata management is provided. Metadata associated with information objects is important in the management and classification of electronic information referred to as information objects. A metadata schema structure definition is defined enabling a metadata schema to be applied to the information objects to ensure consistent creation and management of hierarchical metadata across and organization and interoperability between different metadata schemas.

Method and system of hierarchical metadata management and application

A method for classifying and redacting electronic documents, for example an email message, is described. The classification and redaction of segments of the email message are based on rules. Using the rules, multiple versions of the email message, each corresponding to recipients with specific clearance levels are generated. A selective redacting of certain segments of the email message concurrently with sending previously redacted segments of the same email message is described. A corresponding system for classifying and redacting electronic documents is also provided.

A method and system for providing an automated security access policy in a document management system are described. The security policies are applied based on metadata rules. Once a document is added to the document managements system, the metadata rules are evaluated using the metadata of the document. Based on the results of the evaluation security access policies are applied to the document.
