A patient specific implant alignment guide assembly includes an anatomical reference component and a guide component. The anatomical reference component includes at least one matching feature shaped and dimensioned to match and complement a specific feature of an anatomic location. The anatomical reference component further has one or more protrusions and is fabricated based on one or more images of the anatomic location where the implant is to be implanted. The guide component includes one or more attachment protrusions that are shaped and dimensioned to match and interface with the one or more protrusions of the anatomical reference component. The guide component is attached to the anatomical reference component by matching and attaching the one or more attachment protrusions of the guide component to the one or more protrusions of the anatomical reference component.

Patient-specific acetabular alignment guide and method

An acetabular cup impactor particularly suited for minimally invasive surgical procedures includes a handle, a shaft assembly and a coupler connectable to an acetabular cup. The shaft assembly includes a hollow outer shaft and a flexible drive shaft disposed in the outer shaft. The flexible drive shaft is connected at one end to the coupler, and at an opposite end to a thumb wheel, such that rotation of the thumb wheel rotates the drive shaft and operates the coupler. The shaft assembly is curved to bypass anatomical structures intervening between a surgical incision and the acetabulum of a patient.

An apparatus for positioning a prosthesis in a bone includes a body, first and second clamps, a depth gauge and a guide. The first clamp is coupled to the body. The depth gage is coupled to the body and is movable relative thereto generally perpendicular to the shaft of the bone. The second clamp can be selectively engaged with and disengaged from the depth gage. The second clamp is movable with the depth gage and is also moveable in a direction generally parallel to the axis of the bone. The guide is used to determine the proper rotational orientation of the apparatus. The first clamp is then secured to the bone. The second clamp is secured to a trial prosthesis and is engaged with the depth gage as the trial is inserted into the bone. When the proper insertion depth is reached, the second clamp is secured to the depth gage. The joint is then reduced and the range of motion checked. The depth and rotational orientation may be adjusted as needed. The second clamp is released from the trial, the trial is removed and the prosthesis is inserted in the bone and secured to the second clamp.

Prosthesis positioning apparatus

A surgical instrument tray support assembly for attachment to a surgical table having a table frame and at least one side rail secured to the table frame. The surgical instrument tray support system includes a bracket for attachment to the side rail for supporting a post in a generally upright position. A top tube is slidably mounted over the post. Completing the assembly is a frame for supporting a surgical tray, and a bracket for attaching said frame to the top tube.

Prosthesis positioning apparatus and method for implanting a prosthesis

In the broader aspects of the invention, there is provided an improved surgical tool guide and entry hole positioner comprising at least one cannulated sleeve with a handle and soft tissue protector secured to the sleeve. The cannulated sleeve has an inner surface which serves as a guide surface for a surgical tool and an obturator at one end thereof which fits in the cannulated sleeve. An improved method for locating the starting hole and accessing the intramedullary canal of bones such as the femur, the tibia, and the humerus is also provided including the steps of exposing the end of the intramedullary canal, positioning the tip of the sleeved guide with obturator in close proximity to the end of the canal, removing the obturator so that the cannulated sleeve remains in position, placing a guide pin through the sleeve and into the bone for radiographic evaluation of the guide pin placement, positioning a cannulated surgical tool over the guide pin, and using a cannulated drill for creating the entry hole into the bone for access to the intramedullary canal with a reamer, and introducing reamers and other surgical tools, guided by the inner surface of the sleeve into the intramedullary canal to increase the inner diameter of the canal until it is of a suitable diameter to receive a fracture fixation device, all the while retracting and protecting muscle, skin, and other soft tissue from damage.
