The disclosure provides a solution to problems associated with vibrations during drilling by applying metrics on post job data and providing inputs from past experiences to pre-job planning for drilling jobs. The vibration information and analysis can also be used during a current drilling operation wherein a vibration source can be automatically identified and operating parameters can be changed to mitigate the vibration. The disclosure provides a method of executing a drilling operation, a vibration analyzer, and a drilling system. In one example, the method includes: (1) collecting drilling job data from a completed drilling job, wherein the drilling job data includes sensor data collected from downhole sensors, (2) determining a vibration severity index from the sensor data, and (3) executing at least a portion of a drilling operation based on the vibration severity index.

Service improvements using adaptive models derived from classified vibration mechanisms

In some aspects, the disclosed technology provides solutions for using a residual gravitational noise signal to perform anomaly detection. In one aspect, a process of the disclosed technology includes steps for receiving a residual signal, wherein the residual signal is based on one or more magnetic field signals and at least one gravitational field signal corresponding with a drilling tool orientation over time, analyzing the residual signal to identify one or more tool vibration harmonics, and identifying one or more drilling anomalies based on the one or more tool vibration harmonics. A method and system for identifying a fault in a downhole tool. The method may comprise storing a plurality of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from one or more previous downhole operations in a database, mapping the plurality of DTCs in the database, performing a downhole operation wherein a DTC is generated, and performing a determinative algorithm that uses pattern recognition to identify a fault caused by a DTC signature based on the one or more of the plurality of DTCs.

In one aspect, a process of the disclosed technology includes steps for receiving a magnetic field signal, wherein the magnetic field signal is generated by measurements produced by a magnetometer disposed in a drilling tool chassis, receiving a gravitational field signal, and processing the magnetic field signal to generate a clean magnetic field signal. In some aspects, the process can further include steps for calculating a residual signal based on the clean magnetic field signal and the gravitational field signal. Identification of residual gravitational signal from drilling tool sensor data

Systems and methods are disclosed for identifying one or more vibration mechanisms or other mechanism associated with tool failure. In one example, a machine learning data system comprises a data pre-processing module, a machine learning training module, and a predictive module. The pre-processing module analyzes dynamic sensor input to identify one or more vibration mechanisms associated with a downhole tool. The machine learning training module identifies a correlation between dynamic sensor data and failure data for a plurality of downhole tools. The predictive module correlates the one or more vibration mechanism with tool failure or performance.

Use of vibration indexes as classifiers for tool performance assessment and failure detection

A method and system for a rotary steerable system (RSS). The method may comprise performing a tool position calculation from the one or more measurements and creating one or more event flags based at least in part on a location of the RSS in a formation, wherein the one or more event flags are created by an information handling system disposed on a bottom hole assembly. The method may also comprise selecting an algorithm for the tool position calculation based on the one or more event flags. Automated scheduling of sensors for directional drilling

The disclosure provides a well system environment ranging system including a well shoe device with a ranging source. In one aspect the ranging source is a magnetic source that can be a permanent magnet, and electromagnet, or a smart electromagnet. A method is also provided wherein a ranging receiver can be deployed to determine the relative location of the well shoe device to the ranging receiver. The well shoe device and the ranging receiver can be deployed in adjacent wellbores. In one aspect, multiple well shoe devices including a magnetic source can be inserted into one or more wellbores where the magnetic sources can have different specified magnetic field intensity so the well shoe positions can be determined by one or more ranging receivers.

A method and system for a rotary steerable system (RSS). The method may comprise disposing the RSS into a borehole, identifying a failure from the one or more tracking measurements, the mechanical operation of the RSS, or the one or more sensors from a diagnostic review. Additionally, the method may further comprise flagging the failure with a failure code and reporting the failure and its mitigation actions to personnel in real time. The system may comprise one or more sensors configured to measure a location the RSS in a formation from one or more tracking measurements and monitor a mechanical operation of the RSS. A drill bit includes a bit head defining a longitudinal axis, an adjustable cutter blade having a cutting element, and a blade ramp extending transversely relative to the longitudinal axis and arranged to radially adjust the adjustable cutter blade when the adjustable cutter blade moves axially along a side of the bit head. The drill bit further includes a gauge pad coupled to the adjustable cutter blade and a gauge pad ramp extending transversely relative to the longitudinal axis and arranged to radially adjust the gauge pad when the gauge pad moves axially along the side of the bit head.

Method and system for implementing health monitoring of downhole tool without disassembly is presented in this disclosure. Investigative equipment can be installed in an exterior housing of the downhole tool so that the investigative equipment is in communication with an interior of the downhole tool. The tool can be positioned in a functional test system so that the tool is at least partially enclosed within the functional test system, and efficiency of the tool can be determined by operating the functional test system. The investigative equipment can be utilized to perform diagnostics on a condition of an internal component on the interior of the tool, and the health of the tool can be predicted based on the determined efficiency and the diagnostics.

Health monitoring of power generation assembly for downhole applications

A drill string tool assembly, in some embodiments, comprises a punching tool that induces fissures to increase permeability in a localized region of a borehole wall. The assembly also comprises a sensor that detects spatial features of the fissures and processing logic, coupled to the sensor and punching tool, that adapts operation of the punching tool based on the spatial features. The assembly further comprises a fluid sampling probe, coupled to the processing logic, that samples fluid from the localized region.
