A data processing system, method, and product are disclosed for managing a virtual storage system. A first command is received from a host to store data utilizing a storage scheme. At least one second command is generated to write data according to the storage scheme to ones of the storage devices in response to the receipt of the first command. The at least one second command is then transmitted to the ones of the plurality of storage devices. Data is stored in the ones of the storage devices according to the storage scheme in response to a receipt of the second command by a storage device.

Method, system and product for managing a virtual storage system

A dynamic perimeter circular bus method and system includes a serial interconnect and elements connected in a serial loop through the serial interconnect. In operation, a variable sized loop word is transferred between elements along the serial loop. A sync character of the loop word is transferred from element to element along the serial loop. The sync character is indicative of the beginning of the loop word. At least one present character of the loop word after the sync character is then transferred from element to element along the serial loop. A present character is then asserted at an element to indicate that a data word follows the asserted present character in the loop word. The data word from the element is then put on to the loop word after the asserted present character thereby increasing the size of the loop word. The data word of the loop word is then transferred from element to element along the serial loop.

Method and system for transferring variable sized loop words between elements connected within serial loop through serial interconnect

A method and system for transmitting data among a plurality of cards in a crossbar interconnect network having a plurality of cards each having source paths and destination paths utilizes a plurality of source arbitrators and a plurality of destination arbitrators each associated with the cards. The source arbitrators generate connection request commands from the source paths requesting access to a desired destination path and broadcasts the request for receipt by all of the destination arbitrators. The destination arbitrator associated with the desired destination path captures the connection request command and processes the command based on whether or not the desired destination path is busy. If the desired destination path is not busy, the destination arbitrator generates a connection command requesting a connection be made between the source path and the desired destination path. If the desired destination path is busy, the destination arbitrator stores the connection request command in one of a plurality of buffers until the desired destination path becomes available.
