A process for the recovery of minerals from an ore or concentrate containing the same wherein the minerals are recovered in a froth from an aqueous pulp containing the ore or concentrate and wherein one or more mineral flotation agents are employed in the aqueous pulp to control the type of mineral in the froth is provided. The mineral flotation agent or agents employed in the process comprise sulfenyl dithiocarbamates characterized by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and hydrocarbyl groups with not more than one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 being hydrogen, n is 1 or 2, and R.sub.3 is a hydrocarbyl group.

Halohydroxyalkylthio-substituted an dihydroxyalkylthio-substituted polycarboxylic acids and alkali metal salts thereof are effective corrosion inhibitors for various metal surfaces. In one embodiment, mineral acid compositions such as aqueous hydrochloric acid metal cleaning solutions exhibit diminished corrosiveness when corrosion inhibiting additives of the invention are present in the compositions.

Novel compositions are provided for the cleaning and inhibiting corrosion of metallic surfaces. A novel composition and process are provided for cleaning metallic surfaces. The aqueous cleaning composition comprises an effective amount of at least one thiomorpholine compound represented by the formula: ##STR1## where R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7, and R.sub.8 can be hydrogen or any hydrocarbyl radical having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms and where the total number of carbon atoms in R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7, and R.sub.8 not to exceed about 10 carbon atoms; and where R.sub.9 is hydrogen or any hydrocarbyl radical having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, metal hydroxide, and water soluble surfactant.

Sulfur based metal cleaners

A novel composition and process are provided for cleaning metallic surfaces. The cleaning composition comprises an effective amount of at least one sulfur containing compound selected from the group consisting of a dialkylamino dithiocarbamic acid, a mercapto alkanone, or a trimethylene ring sulfur compound.

An olefinically unsaturated alkyl carboxylate is reacted with hydrogen sulfide in the presence of a lower alkanol using an addition catalyst with water and/or sulfur cocatalyst to give an alkyl mercaptocarboxylate/dialkyl thiodicarboxylate mixture having a high proportion of the mercaptocarboxylate. If sulfur is contained in the cocatalyst, dialkyl dithiodicarboxylates are also formed. The resulting mixture on transesterification with a poly(oxyalkylene)-polyol gives a poly(oxyalkylene)-polyester-poly(monosulfide)-polythiol or a poly(oxyalkylene)-polyester-poly(monosulfide)-poly(disulfide)-polythiol having a good balance of properties.
