A recording material including a support having at least one colored surface and a layer of polymeric material is described. The layer including polymeric particles has a core/shell structure, and the particles are either (i) particles having an outermost polymer shell having a calculated Tg of from 40° C. to 80° C., or (ii) particles having an inner polymer shell having a calculated Tg of from 40° C. to 130° C. and an outer polymer shell having a calculated Tg of from −55° C. to 50° C. The calculated Tg of said outer polymer shell is lower than that of said inner polymer shell, the particles including, when dry, at least one void capable of providing opacity to said layer, and the colored surface has sufficient color density to be visibly contrasting to a surface of the subsequent layer including the polymeric particles disposed thereon.

Recording material

The present invention relates to a coating composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a binder and first and second core-shell polymer particles having aqueous neutralized acid cores, wherein the dry bulk density of the first core-shell polymer particles is in the range of 0.25 to 0.5 g/mL; and the dry bulk density of the second core-shell polymer particles is in the range of 0.30 to 0.90 g/mL. The composition of the present invention is useful as an undercoat layer for a thermosensitive recording material.

The present invention relates to a thermosensitive recording material comprising paper, an undercoat layer disposed on the paper, and a thermosensitive recording layer disposed on the undercoat layer, wherein the undercoat layer comprises a binder and first and second hollow sphere polymer particles, wherein the first hollow sphere polymer particles have a diameter in the range of from 1.2 &#x3bc;m to 1.8 &#x3bc;m; the second hollow sphere polymer particles have a diameter in the range of from 0.25 &#x3bc;m to 1.0 &#x3bc;m; the number ratio of the second to the first hollow sphere polymer particles is in the range of from 1:1 to 20:1; the diameter of the second hollow sphere polymer particles is in the range of from 15 to 65% of the diameter of the first hollow sphere polymer particles; the dry bulk density of the first hollow sphere polymer particles is in the range of 0.25 to 0.5 g/mL; and the dry bulk density of the second hollow sphere polymer particles is in the range of 0.30 to 0.90 g/mL.
