A method for operating translation look-aside buffers, TLBs, in a multiprocessor system. A purge request is received for purging one or more entries in the TLB. When the thread doesn't require access to the entries to be purged the execution of the purge request at the TLB may start. When an address translation request is rejected due to the TLB purge, a suspension time window may be set. During the suspension time window, the execution of the purge is suspended and address translation requests of the thread are executed. After the suspension window is ended the purge execution may be resumed. When the thread requires access to the entries to be purged, it may be blocked for preventing the thread sending address translation requests to the TLB and upon ending the purge request execution, the thread may be unblocked and the address translation requests may be executed.

Suspending translation look-aside buffer purge execution in a multi-processor environment

Disclosed herein is a method for operating translation look-aside buffers, TLBs, in a multiprocessor system. A purge request is received for purging one or more entries in the TLB. When the thread doesn't require access to the entries to be purged the execution of the purge request at the TLB may start. When an address translation request is rejected due to the TLB purge, a suspension time window may be set. During the suspension time window, the execution of the purge is suspended and address translation requests of the thread are executed. After the suspension window is ended the purge execution may be resumed. When the thread requires access to the entries to be purged, it may be blocked for preventing the thread sending address translation requests to the TLB and upon ending the purge request execution, the thread may be unblocked and the address translation requests may be executed.

Methods and apparatuses for performing a quiesce operation during a processor recovery action is provided. A processor performs a processor recovery action. A processor retrieves a quiesce status of a computer system from a shared cache with a second processor. A processor determines a quiesce status of the first processor based, a least in part, on the retrieved quiesce status of the computer system.

Recovery improvement for quiesced systems

A method, system, and/or computer program product for dynamic array masking is provided. Dynamic array masking includes, during execution of computer instructions that access a cache memory, detecting an error condition in a portion of the cache memory. The portion of the cache memory contains an array macro. Dynamic array masking, during the execution of the computer instructions that access a cache memory, further includes dynamically setting mask bits to indicate the error condition in the portion of the cache memory and preventing subsequent writes to the portion of the cache memory in accordance with the dynamically set mask bits. Embodiments also include evicting cache entries from the portion of the cache memory. This evicting can include performing a cache purge operation for the cache entries corresponding to the dynamically set mask bits.

Dynamic array masking

A multi-boundary address protection range is provided to prevent key operations from interfering with a data move performed by a dynamic memory relocation (DMR) move operation. Any key operation address that is within the move boundary address range gets rejected back to the hypervisor. Further, logic exists across a set of parallel slices to synchronize the DMR move operation as it crosses a protected boundary address range.

Operations interlock under dynamic relocation of storage

An aspect includes a method for operating on translation look-aside buffers (TLBs) in a multiprocessor environment including a plurality of logical partitions as zones. The method includes concurrently receiving a first quiesce request from a first processor of a first zone to quiesce processors of a first set of zones including the first zone and receiving a second quiesce request from a second processor of a second zone to quiesce processors of a second set of zones including the second zone. The second set of zones consists of separate zones from the first set of zones. Based on receiving the first quiesce request, only processors of the first set of zones are quiesced. Based on the processors of the first set of zones being quiesced, a first operation is performed on the TLBs. Based on the first operation being performed, the processors of the first set of zones are un-quiesced.

Operating on translation look-aside buffers in a multiprocessor environment

A system, method and computer program product for providing multiple quiesce state machines. The system includes a first controller including logic for processing a first quiesce request. The system also includes a second controller including logic for processing a second quiesce request. All or a portion of the processing of the second quiesce request overlaps in time with the processing of the first quiesce request. Thus, multiple quiesce requests may be active in the system at the same time.

Providing multiple quiesce state machines in a computing environment
