Spot aware print workflow techniques and system are described. In an implementation, a digital document is received for printing that includes a plurality of objects. Spot functionality is detected as corresponding to a respective object based on object properties detected for the respective object. One or more spot planes for are generated based on the spot functionality and a determination is made of color values for the one or more spot planes, respectively, based on context data describing a context, in which, the one or more spot planes are to be printed. The spot planes having the color values are output for printing by a print mechanism.

Automated content and context aware spot print workflow

A method, system, and computer-readable storage medium are disclosed for minimizing tessellation of surfaces. A first plurality of polygons may be generated, wherein the first plurality of polygons are adjacent to a plurality of exterior curves of a surface. Each of the first plurality of polygons comprises at least one outside edge approximating a portion of one of the exterior curves within a first flatness tolerance. A second plurality of polygons may be generated, wherein the second plurality of polygons are on the interior of the surface. Each of the second plurality of polygons comprises a plurality of inside edges approximating portions of interior curves of the surface within a second flatness tolerance. The first flatness tolerance may be smaller than the second flatness tolerance.

Minimizing tessellation of surfaces

Systems and methods provide a mechanism to print documents having artwork with overlapping inks. One aspect of the systems and methods includes sending the document to a printer having a printer control system. The printer control system detects overlapping areas, and flattens the artwork into separate atomic regions. The system determines whether the colors in the atomic regions are available on the printer as process colors or spot colors. Unavailable spot colors are converted to process colors, and blended into a single process color. Available spot colors are retained.
