A scupper suitable for a bearing compartment of a gas turbine engine includes a windage blocker in a gutter section upstream of a drain hole, the windage blocker extends from a wall of the gutter section. A method for capturing wept oil in a bearing compartment of a gas turbine engine includes positioning a windage blocker adjacent to a drain hole forming a passage space and increasing a pressure upstream of the windage blocker to generate a vortex downstream of the windage blocker creating an oil re-circulation zone promoting oil drainage into the drain hole.

A gas turbine engine according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a passageway configured to permit fluid to drain back into a bearing compartment. The passageway has an inlet outside the bearing compartment and an outlet inside the bearing compartment. The outlet is spaced-apart from a central rotational axis of a towershaft gear.

Oil drainback arrangement for gas turbine engine

A system for a turbine engine includes a turbine engine component, a lubricant collection device and a plurality of lubricant circuits. The lubricant collection device is fluidly coupled with the turbine engine component. The lubricant circuits are fluidly coupled between the lubricant collection device and the turbine engine component. The lubricant circuits include a first circuit and a second circuit configured in parallel with the first circuit. Each of the lubricant circuits includes a lubricant pump. The first and the second circuits receive lubricant from the lubricant collection device, and direct the received lubricant to the turbine engine component.

A method of real-time oil consumption is disclosed. A method of real-time oil consumption detection may include capturing a raw oil quantity, calculating a corrected oil quantity, calculating a predicted oil quantity, calculating a prediction error, and calculating an estimated oil consumption rate. Raw oil quantity may be captured from an oil quantity sensor in an engine. Corrected oil quantity may be calculated by taking raw oil quantity and applying environmental and engine operational conditions. Prediction error may be calculated by finding the difference between corrected oil quantity and predicted oil quantity. Oil consumption rate may be calculated by applying a regression algorithm to prediction error.

Method of real-time oil consumption detection

A bearing with non-uniform cage clearance is provided. The bearing may comprise an inner ring having a first inner ring surface radially opposite a second inner ring surface; bearing elements in contact with the first inner ring surface; an outer bearing ring surrounding the inner bearing ring and the bearing elements; and a bearing cage having a first bearing cage surface radially opposite a second bearing cage surface and configured to surround and retain the bearing elements. At least one of the first inner ring surface, the first bearing cage surface, the second bearing cage surface, or a second outer ring surface of the outer ring may comprise an out of round shape having one or more peaks and one or more valleys relative to a radial centerpoint of the bearing.

The present disclosure relates generally to a fluid flow system having a debris filter media therein to remove debris from a fluid flowing therein. A valve is provided to periodically change the flow direction of fluid within the system so that debris trapped on the debris filter media is scrubbed off by the flow of fluid across a face of the debris filter media.
