Polyurethane prepolymers having non-linear short chain diols and/or soft diisocyanates incorporated into the backbone are used to provide cured polyurethane coatings having a high hard segment content and low haze. The polyurethane prepolymers can also be used to improve the dispersion of filler in cured polyurethane compositions having a high filler loading. Cured coatings prepared from the two-part polyurethane systems meet the requirements for aerospace applications.

Polyurethane prepolymers incorporating nonlinear short chain diols and/or soft diisocyanates compositions, and uses thereof

Isocyanate-terminated chain-extended polythioether prepolymers, compositions thereof, and methods of use thereof are disclosed. The isocyanate-terminated chain-extended polythioether prepolymers are useful in sprayable coatings and sealants and especially sprayable coatings and sealants having a high filler content.

Sprayable polythioether coatings and sealants

Adducts and prepolymers comprising pendent alkyl groups are disclosed. Polythiol adducts prepared by reacting a polythiol with a ketone and urethane-extended polythiol adducts. The polythiol adducts can be terminated with isocyanate groups. Compositions comprising the isocyanate-terminated polythiol adducts, isocyanate-terminated sulfur-containing prepolymers, and diisocyanates can be combined with polyamine or polyepoxide curing agents to provide curable compositions. Cured compositions are suitable for aerospace coating and sealant applications. The compositions can also include a low specific gravity filler and, when cured, meet the requirements of aerospace sealant applications.

Urethane-modified prepolymers containing pendent alkyl groups, compositions and uses thereof

A composition includes an isocyanate, a polyether diol, a branched short chain diol having a backbone including carbon atoms in a range of 1 to 9 and at least one branching group, and a cross-linker having a hydroxyl functionality in a range of 2.2 to 4. A films includes the composition and an interlayer includes the film. Transparencies including the interlayer and methods of making the same are further disclosed.

Thermoplastic polyurethane interlayer

A primer solution for enhanced adhesion to a rigid substrate for aviation and aerospace applications includes an aminosilane-capped polyurethane prepolymer and a first solvent. The first solvent reacts with or modifies the surface of the rigid substrate, enabling the primer solution including the aminosilane-capped polyurethane prepolymer to become a part of the surface of the rigid substrate.

Solvent-based primer solution based on silylated polyurethane (SPUR) chemistry for polycarbonate substrates

A composition including an isocyanate, a polyether polyol and a low molecular weight polyester polyol having a weight average molecular weight in a range of about 200 g/mol to about 1000 g/mol is disclosed. Films including the composition and interlayers including the film are also disclosed. Transparencies including the interlayer and methods of making the same are further disclosed.

Disclosed are reduced density coating compositions and articles, such as aerospace vehicles, at least partially coated with an opaque coating deposited from such compositions. The reduced density coating compositions include low density microspheres comprising a core and a solid opacifying coating covering a surface of the core.

Reduced density opaque coatings and aerospace vehicles at least partially coated therewith

Fluorinated polyurethanes and methods of making the same are provided. The fluorinated polyurethanes are useful for making polyurethane coating compositions for use in aerospace and other applications. The method includes a 'split process' by which a hydroxypolyalkylenoxy derivative of a perfluoropolyoxyalkane is separately reacted with isocyanate to produce an isocyanate-terminated compound. The isocyanate-terminated compound is then reacted with an emulsifier to produce an acid- and hydroxyl-functional compound. The acid- and hydroxyl-functional compound is then reacted with isocyanate to form an acid-functional, isocyanate-terminated compound. The acid-functional, isocyanate-terminated compound is then reacted with at least one polyol to produce a higher molecular weight, acid- and hydroxyl-functional compound. Finally, the acid functional groups of the high molecular weight, acid- and hydroxyl-functional compound are neutralized to form a fluoro-urethane salt which is dispersed in water. The resulting fluorinated polyurethane can be used to prepare a polyurethane coating composition.
