A light-cyan solid ink including an ink vehicle and a colorant. The colorant includes a cyan colorant, a hue-adjusting colorant that absorbs light having a wavelength of from about 500 to about 600 nm, and an optional shade-adjusting colorant that absorbs light having a wavelength of from about 400 to about 500 nm.

A pigmented phase change ink composition comprising an ink vehicle, a dispersant, and pigment particles wherein the dispersant is a chemical compound of formula: wherein Ris an alkyl group, aryl group, alkylaryl group or arylalkyl group with at least 23 carbon atoms, Ris an alkylene group, arylene group, alkylarylene group or arylalkylene group with at least 2 carbons and X is a quaternary ammonium salt. The ink can be resistant to substantial aggregation and settling of the pigment particles in the melt and even when exposed to freeze thaw cycles.

The disclosure provides, in various embodiments, a method for fractionating a polyalkylene, and the fractionated polyalkylene produced thereby. The method includes, for example, separating, from a starting polyalkylene, a first portion of a polyalkylene having a Mw less than the Mw of the starting polyalkylene. Also included are carriers, phase change inks and toners comprising the fractionated polyalkylene, such as the first portion of a polyalkylene.

A method of making a phase change ink composition includes adding to a device with a stirring element at least one pigment, at least one dispersant and at least one synergist, processing the device at an elevated temperature and at a stirring rate to wet the at least one pigment to obtain an ink concentrate, and mixing the ink concentrate with an ink vehicle to obtain the ink composition. The device may be an extruder, an attritor or the like. The method allows for the reduction in the amount of dispersant to include in the ink.

Disclosed is a phase change carbon black ink composition comprising 1) a low polarity ink carrier comprising (A) a low polarity wax, optionally (B) an ester-terminated polyamide, (2) a dispersant, and (3) a carbon black colorant. The ink can be resistant to substantial aggregation and settling of the carbon black colorant in the melt and up to about the jetting temperature of the ink even when exposed to freeze thaw cycles.

Disclosed is a phase change black ink composition comprising (1) a low polarity ink carrier comprising (A) an ester-terminated polyamide, (B) a Guerbet alcohol or a Guerbet alcohol mixture including at least one linear alcohol, and (C) a low polarity wax, and (2) a black colorant. A solvent-less process for producing a transient document which is capable of self-erasing, wherein the solvent-less process includes a) heating and reacting a photochromic compound and a polymer to form a coating composition, and b) coating the coating composition onto an image-receiving side of a transient document substrate, and further an image forming method using the same solvent-less process and including (i) providing a reimageable medium of a substrate and a photochromic material, wherein the medium is capable of exhibiting a color contrast and an absence of the color contrast; (ii) exposing the medium to an imaging light corresponding to a predetermined image to result in an exposed region and a non-exposed region, wherein the color contrast is present between the exposed region and the non-exposed region to allow a temporary image corresponding to the predetermined image to be visible for a visible time; (iii) subjecting the temporary image to an indoor ambient condition for an image erasing time to change the color contrast to the absence of the color contrast to erase the temporary image without using an image erasure device; and (iv) optionally repeating procedures (ii) and (ii) a number of times to result in the medium undergoing a number of additional cycles of temporary image formation and temporary image erasure.

Disclosed is a process for preparing a phase change ink composition which comprises (a) a phase change ink carrier, said carrier comprising at least one nonpolar component and at least one polar component, and (b) pigment particles, said process comprising (1) selecting at least one of the polar carrier components to be a pigment particle dispersant; (2) admixing the pigment particles with the dispersant; (3) extruding the mixture of pigment particles and dispersant in an extruder at a temperature that is at or above about the peak crystallization temperature of the dispersant and below about the peak melting temperature of the dispersant, thereby forming a pigment dispersion; (4) subsequent to extrusion of the pigment dispersion, adding to the pigment dispersion any remaining polar components and the nonpolar component; and (5) subjecting the resulting mixture of pigment dispersion, polar component, and nonpolar component to high shear mixing to form an ink.
