Disclosed herein is a medical system () comprising an augmented reality system () configured for rendering virtual objects within a visual three-dimensional field of view of an operator (). Execution of machine executable instructions () causes the computational system to: receive () segmented medical imaging data () descriptive of a continuous volume of a subject () comprising at least a portion of a brain () of the subject and a cranial surface () of the subject; control () the augmented reality system to determine a registration () between the subject and the segmented medical imaging data; receive () a target location () within the at least a portion of the brain; discretize () the cranial surface to define multiple entry locations (); determine () a straight path () for each of the multiple entry locations that extends to the target location; assign () a path score () to the straight path for each of the multiple entry locations using the segmented medical imaging data; calculate () a three-dimensional path score surface defined by the cranial surface and is descriptive of the path score of each of the multiple entry locations; and render () the three-dimensional path score surface using the augmented reality system, wherein the rendered three-dimensional path score surface is positioned in the visual three-dimensional field of view of the operator using the registration.

Deep brain path planning using augmented reality

An apparatus for monitoring patients undergoing a Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) scan provides an input, a processor, and an output. The input provides the processor with at least one sensor data of a patient undergoing an MRI scan by an MRI scanner. The input provides the processor with at least one scan parameter of the MRI scanner for the MRI scan. The input also provides the processor with at least one characteristic of the patient. The processor predicts a stress level of the patient and/or a motion state of the patient, the prediction or predictions utilize at least one sensor data of the patient, the at least one scan parameter of the MRI scanner, and the at least one characteristic of the patient. The output outputs information relating to the predicted stress level of the patient and/or the predicted motion state of the patient.

Apparatus for monitoring of a patient undergoing a magnetic resonance image scan

It is proposed to obtain information about a stress or anxiety level of a subject within a predetermined time period before, during and/or after a capture time of a fMRI scan image. Medication management system and method

A system and method for reducing anxiety of a patient during medical scanning in a medical scanner which may produce significant levels of acoustic noise. A processor or control unit receives a measure of variation in a parameter of the scanner noise during the medical scanning. The processor then generates outputs to audio and video playback units that present an audio-video scenery to the patient during the scanning in accordance with the measure of variation in the parameter of the scanner noise. An image object in the video imagery is linked to the audio signal, so as to distract the patient's attention away from the scanner noise. The audio-video scenery may be switched according to an estimated scanner noise level. An effective distraction of the patient is obtained with a limited audio signal level which is far lower than the scanner noise.
