A multi-pin grid array socket connector (20) features a contact (40) including spring arms (58) which flex to reduce binding caused by out of place pins (16) of a pin grid array (12) inserted and withdrawn therefrom facilitating high pin count arrays to be mated with low overall mating forces.

Low insertion force connector and contact

A longitudinally resilient electrical terminal is stamped and formed from a unitary piece of metal stock and has a front contacting body, an intermediate spring body and a rear body including conductor terminating means. The intermediate spring portion is formed by a number of spring sections each of which has pairs of legs angularly positioned with respect to each other and joined at their adjacent ends to form a zig-zag configuration. The terminal is formed into a generally cylindrical shape with the intermediate portion providing somewhat of a helical spring configuration and resulting action. The amount of spring force generated by the subject terminal is determined by the stock characteristics, as well as the number of spring sections, the relative angle between the legs, and the tightness of the curl in forming the cylindrical configuration. The conductor terminating means can be a crimp or other known means. The subject terminal is preferably utilized in a known connector configuration and can quite effectively be used in a sealed environment.

A filtered electrical connector comprises three main parts, a header housing in which are located a plurality of socket contacts, an apertured filter ground plate connected to ground and having located therein a number of hollow tubular filter sleeve elements corresponding to the number of socket contacts, the latter elements having stems or legs located in the filter sleeve elements and soldered thereto and a ground plate secured to the front of the housing and providing a connector between ground and the shell of a pin connection adapted to be inserted into the receptacle.

A pin connector has a pin carrier into which a plurality of contact pins snap in and are retained; the pin carrier being cemented in an outer conductive shell having a plurality of hollow tubular filter member with each pin having a part thereof seated in a different one of the tubular members and the outer diameter of the tubular filter members are grounded whereby to provide a low pass filter in the body for each pin. A front pin guide is inserted in the end of the shell opposite the pin carrier, all members being aligned by means of a key in the interior surface of the shell and keywrap in all of the interior inserts.

An improved connector for terminating tri-lead cable includes a housing carrying a signal terminal and a ground terminal each capable of making engagement with a respective conductor of one or a pair of tri-lead cables. The connector also includes a pair of hermaphroditic covers each of which receives therein a respective tri-lead cable with the conductors thereof profiled to positions enabling termination by the terminals. The covers secure the termination sections of the terminals therewithin and are movable along with the terminals with respect to the housing to effect unlocking of the signal terminal from a mating pin terminal of a printed circuit board, so that the connector assembly is removable from the board, the ground terminal being removably engageable with a mating ground rail of the board.

An improved assembly is disclosed for adjustably mounting a read-write head in a card reader apparatus so as to compensate for warped and inaccurate cards without yielding erroneous data. The subject assembly includes a head carrying frame member, an intermediate frame member, and a pivot block assembly, all of which combine to provide an adjustable floating action of the magnetic head carried thereby with respect to cards passed thereunder.

Adjustable read head assembly

The invention relates to a card reader and to a novel connector for a plurality of printed circuit boards. In the connector a plurality of dielectric laminates are bonded together with electrical contacts arranged in rows. Printed circuit boards are insertable within pockets formed by the laminates. The spring contacts engage edges of the printed circuit boards. Elastomeric strips are compressed internally in the pockets to bias the contacts into electrical engagement with the printed circuit boards without a need for soldering the contacts to the boards. In the card reader, a read head incorporates the described connector and is mounted for displacement toward and away from an apertured encoded card. Displacement of the read head is produced by rotation of a shaft on which are mounted eccentric cams. The read head is provided with follower blocks which engage the surface of the cams. Upon rotation of the cams the cam followers are required to shift and allow the desired displacement of the read head toward and away from the card being read.
