In one embodiment, an array of packages may comprise three or more different sizes of disposable absorbent articles. The Product Length-to-Waist Silhouette of a second absorbent article may be equal to or less than a Product Length-to-Waist Silhouette of a first absorbent article. A method for making a layered elastic substrate includes advancing a first substrate layer and a second substrate layer in a machine direction. An elastic material is advanced in the machine direction in a stretched state. The elastic material may be bonded to the first substrate layer and the second substrate layer in a stretched state to form a layered elastic substrate. The layered elastic substrate may advance through a first metering device at speed, V1, and through a second metering device at speed, V2, subsequent to advancing through the first metering device, wherein V1 is greater than V2. As a result, the elastic material, and thus the layered elastic substrate, may be stretched to a first elongation at the first metering device and relaxed to a second elongation at the second device. The layered elastic substrate is cut and bonded to a continuous length of web material.

Apparatus and method for making a layered elastic substrate

A first elastic material is advanced in a machine direction in a stretched state to a first metering device at a speed, V. A second elastic material is advanced in the machine direction in a stretched state to a second metering device at a speed, V. First and second substrate layers are advanced in a machine direction to a third metering at a speed, V, along with the first and second elastic materials. The first and second elastic materials are bonded to the first and second substrate layers at the third metering device to form a layered elastic substrate. The layered elastic substrate is advanced to a fourth metering device at a speed, V. Vis less than V, Vis greater than Vand V, Vis less than V, and Vis greater than Vand V

A first substrate advances in the first direction and a second substrate advances in the second direction. The first substrate advances onto an outer circumferential surface of a drum in a stretched state. The first substrate may be cut into discrete lengths of elastic substrate. The drum may be configured with vacuum to hold the discrete length of elastic substrate in a stretched state. The second substrate may advance in the second direction by a conveyor. The conveyor includes a roller having a curved outer surface that deforms the second substrate so as to define a curve in the first direction. A tamper apparatus intermittently displaces a deformed portion of the second substrate into contact with a discrete length of elastic substrate on the outer circumferential surface of the drum. The discrete length of elastic substrate bonds with the second substrate and is removed from the drum.

Method and apparatus for attaching elastic components to absorbent articles

The present invention provides an article to be worn about a wearer including a surface fastening system having a primary direction of load bearing. The surface fastening system has a first surface fastening element and a second surface fastening element. The first fastening element is joined to the article, and the second fastening element is disposed so as to be generally in a face to face relationship with the first fastening element when the surface fastening system is in a fastened configuration. The surface fastening system has a peel resistance in a direction other than the primary direction of load bearing greater than or equal to about 1000 grams.

Absorbent article with improved fastening system

An article to be worn about a wearer including an fastening system joined to the article including a receiving member having at least a first receiving fastening element and a second receiving fastening element. The first receiving fastening element is disposed on a flap having a proximal portion joined to the article and a distal portion extending from the proximal portion. The second receiving fastening element is disposed so as to be generally in face to face relationship with the first receiving fastening element when the receiving member is in a closed configuration. An engaging member includes at least a first engaging fastening element and a second engaging fastening element. The first engaging fastening element is engageable with at least the first receiving fastening element and the second engaging fastening element is engageable with at least the second receiving fastening element. The fastening system may be unbalanced; the second flap may be substantially unjoined to the article; the receiving member may have a hinge oriented substantially parallel to a primary direction of load bearing; and/or the fastening system may have a peel resistance in a direction other than the primary direction of load bearing greater than or equal to about 1000 grams.

The present invention provides a bib having an improved pocket. The bib has a body panel, a pocket panel forming a pocket space between the body panel and the pocket panel, and a third panel joined to the pocket panel. The third panel includes a flexible member joined thereto that helps to maintain the pocket space in an open configuration once the third panel is folded into the pocket space.
