Techniques and apparatus for selecting a maximum input supply voltage from multiple input power supplies. An example maximum input supply selection circuit includes a parallel array of comparators and selection logic to select the maximum input supply voltage, supply present detectors, comparator settling logic including a warm-up delay timer to provide for comparator settling, and comparator enable logic for disabling all comparators and entering an ultra-low power mode.

In one embodiment, a power management integrated circuit comprises a finite state machine having a first terminal to receive a digital command signal, a second terminal to receive a clock signal, and a third terminal to receive a first reset signal to reset the finite state machine into a predetermined operational state. A plurality of diagnostic registers is configured to store a signal state of the digital command signal or a clock state of the clock signal, or both in response to the first reset signal. The diagnostic registers are configured to maintain the signal state or the clock state, or both after powering down of the power management integrated circuit in response to the first reset signal. The diagnostic registers are configured to allow retrieval of the stored signal state or the stored clock state, or both upon power on of the power management integrated circuit.

Diagnostic systems and methods of finite state machines

Techniques for autonomous thermal management of a power-management integrated circuit (PMIC). In an exemplary embodiment, an embedded microcontroller is provided on the PMIC to store instructions for implementing a thermal controller. The thermal controller may manage in real-time the current scaling factors of a plurality of modules coupled to corresponding off-chip power entities. The thermal controller may include registers that are programmable by an off-chip entity such as a microprocessor to specify parameters such as module priorities and a minimum current scaling factor for each module. Power entities that may be controlled by the autonomous thermal controller include, e.g., a battery charger, and/or one or more user-interface entities such as a back light display driver, a flash LED driver, or an audio amplifier.

Exemplary embodiments are directed to an electronic device for enabling a temperature of a battery unit to be sensed with a wired power charger or a wireless power. A device may include a wireless power receiver and a wired charging module operably coupled to the wireless power receiver. The device may also include an interface configured to couple to a battery unit and for selectively enabling one of the wireless power receiver and the wired charging module to determine a temperature of the battery unit.
